''Becoming a Jackal'' is the debut album by the Irish rock group Villagers. In 2010 it was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Villagers are an Irish indie folk band and the musical project of the sole long-term member, Conor J O'Brien who is a singer-songwriter based in Dublin, Ireland.. Widely known for his production, arrangements and thought-provoking lyrics, O'Brien currently releases Villagers material via Domino Recording Co. Villagers first came to prominence in 2010 with the release of their debut album, '' Becoming a Jackal''. Released to critical acclaim, the album was shortlisted for the 2010 Mercury Prize and the Choice Music Prize. Their second studio album, '' '' was released in 2013. It won the Choice Music Prize that year and was also shortlisted for the 2013 Mercury Prize. The GfK Entertainment charts are the official music charts in Germany and are gathered and published by GfK Entertainment (formerly Media Control and Media Control GfK International), a subsidiary of GfK, on behalf of Bundesverband Musikindustrie. The Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA) is a non-profit association set up in 1999 to promote certain interests of the music industry in Ireland. The Irish Independent Albums Chart (also known as Independent Artist Albums or Top 20 Indie Albums) is a chart of best-selling independent album releases in Ireland. It is issued weekly by the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA) and complied on its behalf by GfK's Chart-Track. Chart rankings are based upon album sales compiled through electronically captured retail data each day from retailers' EPOS systems and certain digital retailers. Sales from major retailers, including HMV, Virgin, Tower and Golden Discs, were once excluded from the chart but data from major retailers and over forty other independent retailers now compose the chart.
