Becky Chambers
Becky Chambers (born 3 May 1985) is an American science fiction writer. She is the author of the Hugo Award-winning ''Wayfarers'' series as well as novellas including '' To Be Taught, if Fortunate'' and the ''Monk & Robot'' series, which begins with the Hugo Award-winning '' A Psalm for the Wild-Built''. She is known for her imaginative world-building and character-driven stories. Early life, family and education Chambers was born in 1985 in Southern California and grew up outside Los Angeles. Chambers' family included several people with an interest in various NASA space exploration efforts. Her parents are an astrobiology educator and a satellite engineer. She became fascinated with 'space' and its exploration at an early age. Solarpunk
Solarpunk is a literary and artistic movement that envisions and works toward actualizing a sustainable future interconnected with nature and community. The "solar" represents solar energy as a renewable energy source and an optimistic vision of the future that rejects climate doomerism, while the "punk" refers to the countercultural, post-capitalist, and decolonial enthusiasm for creating such a future. As a science fiction literary subgenre and art movement, solarpunk works address how the future might look if humanity succeeded in solving major contemporary challenges with an emphasis on sustainability, human impact on the environment, and addressing climate change and pollution. Especially as a subgenre, it is aligned with cyberpunk derivatives, and may borrow elements from utopian and fantasy genres. The Otherwise Award, formerly known as the James Tiptree Jr. Award, is an American annual literary prize for works of science fiction or fantasy that expand or explore one's understanding of gender. It was initiated in February 1991 by science fiction authors Pat Murphy and Karen Joy Fowler, subsequent to a discussion at WisCon. In addition to the award itself, the judges publish what was originally known as the Tiptree Award Honor List, which they describe as "a strong part of the award's identity and ... used by many readers as a recommended reading list." Tor Books is the primary imprint of Tor Publishing Group (previously Tom Doherty Associates), a publishing company based in New York City.
