Beaver Creek (York Region)
Beaver Creek is a river in the municipalities of Markham and Richmond Hill in the Regional Municipality of York, part of the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. It is part of the Great Lakes Basin and is a right tributary of the Rouge River. Hydrology The source of the creek is a basin formed at the outflow of a drainage culvert in Richmond Hill. The creek flows southeast through a residential area before crossing almost directly under the intersection of Leslie Street and 16th Avenue into the eponymous Beaver Creek industrial area. The creek continues southeast into Markham, under Highway 404 and southwest of the intersection of Woodbine Avenue and Highway 7 at the community of Brown's Corners. It continues southeast to a point just north of Highway 407, before turning northeast to join the Rouge River, just southeast of the IBM Toronto Software Lab. Lake Ontario
Lake Ontario is one of the five Great Lakes of North America. It is bounded on the north, west, and southwest by the Canadian province of Ontario, and on the south and east by the U.S. state of New York. IBM Toronto Software Lab
The IBM Toronto Software Lab is the largest software development laboratory in Canada, and IBM's third largest software lab. Established in 1967 with 55 employees, the Toronto Lab (located in Markham) now has 2,500 employees developing some of IBM's middleware. Some of these include Db2, WebSphere Commerce, WebSphere Customer Center, Tivoli Provisioning Manager, IBM i compilers, and Rational Application Developer. Ontario Highway 407
King's Highway 407, commonly referred to as Highway 407 and colloquially as the "four-oh-seven", is a tolled 400-series highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. Comprising a privately leased segment as well as a publicly owned segment, the route spans the entire Greater Toronto Area (GTA) around the city of Toronto, travelling through the suburbs of Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Pickering, Whitby, and Oshawa before ending in Clarington, north of Orono. Brown's Corners, York Regional Municipality, Ontario
Brown's Corners is an unincorporated community in Markham, Regional Municipality of York in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada and located near the corner of Woodbine Avenue and Highway 7. The community, founded in 1842, was named for local settler Alexander Brown, Sr. (1771–1851) who acquired in 1838. Beaver Creek flows through it. The community is mixed into another unincorporated community of Buttonville, Ontario. History Prior to 1838, the land was known as Crown patent to Lot 11, Concession 3 and was owned by King's College, which purchased the land from the British Crown in 1828. Following the establishment of the farming community, the area became vibrant in the 19th century and into the early 20th century.
