Beaudesert is a rural town and locality in the Scenic Rim Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Beaudesert had a population of 6,395 people. Beaudesert is the administrative centre for the Scenic Rim Region. Geography Beaudesert is south of Brisbane and west of the Gold Coast. Beaudesert is located on the Mount Lindesay Highway, some south of Brisbane. The area sources its income predominantly from rural activities such as cropping, grazing and equine activities, as well as tourism. It has a racecourse, 50-metre swimming pool, public library, two gyms, two secondary schools, two primary schools, showgrounds, caravan park and several hotels and eateries. The surrounding countryside includes numerous valleys leading up to the ranges dividing Queensland and New South Wales with creeks running through them and accompanying mountain scenery. Electoral District Of Beaudesert
Beaudesert was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1991 to 2017. Beaudesert encompassed rural and semi-urban regions located to the south of the Brisbane metropolitan area. Major communities located within this electoral included Beaudesert, Boonah, Aratula, Jimboomba, Tamborine, Canungra and Rathdowney. The seat was created at the 1991 redistribution largely from the territory of the abolished seat of Fassifern. It was a safe seat for the National Party, and its successor the Liberal National Party, throughout its entire existence, although former member Aidan McLindon left the LNP in 2010 to form The Queensland Party. He subsequently joined and became state leader of Katter's Australian Party in 2011, but lost his seat in 2012. The Shire of Beaudesert was a local government area located in South East Queensland, Australia, stretching from the New South Wales border, along the Gold Coast hinterland to the urban fringes of the cities of Brisbane and Ipswich. The Shire covered an area of , and existed from 1879 until its abolition on 15 March 2008, following which it was split between Logan City and the new Scenic Rim Region. History The Tabragalba Division was incorporated on 11 November 1879 under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879'' with a population of 869, centred on Beaudesert. On 18 January 1884, there was an adjustment of boundaries between subdivision No. 1 of Tabragalba Division and subdivision No.2 of the Coomera Division. With the passage of the ''Local Authorities Act 1902'', Tabragalba Division became Shire of Tabragalba on 31 March 1903, and on 8 August 1903 was renamed Shire of Beaudesert by an Order in Council. Beaudesert (pronounced Highways and Byways in Shakspeares Country, Hutton 1914In the Forest of Arden, John Burman, 1948) is a village, civil parish and former manor in the Stratford-on-Avon district of Warwickshire, England, immediately east across the River Alne to the east of Henley-in-Arden, to which it is closely associated and shares a joint parish council with. The main village, consisting of the church and a single short street of houses, stands close to the river and directly opposite Henley Church. Behind the village to the east rises the hill, locally known as 'The Mount', crowned with the earthwork remains of Beaudesert Castle of the De Montforts. Beaudesert Castle
Beaudesert Castle was on a high mound overlooking the village of Beaudesert to the east of Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire (). It is a scheduled ancient monument. The remains found on the site show that it was originally an Iron Age fort which gave the mount its ancient name, Donnilee. The hilltop and the surrounding area was "sculpted" to form a motte and bailey fortification with its timber Hall following the Norman conquest. It was followed by the construction of a stone castle. According to sources it was Thurston De Montfort who built the stone castle here in 1140 during the reign of Henry II, and it remained the De Montfort seat for more than a hundred years. Peter de Montfort also resided at the castle. The Earl of Warwick took possession of the De Montfort's land in approximately 1369, and subsequently the castle's importance declined. Beaudesert (House)
Beaudesert was an estate and stately home on the southern edge of Cannock Chase in Staffordshire. It was one of the family seats of the Paget family, the Marquesses of Anglesey. The estate was obtained by William Paget, 1st Baron Paget in 1546; the family's other main seat is at Plas Newydd. The estate was broken up by the 6th Marquess of Anglesey due to financial difficulties; as a result the furniture was sold off and the fabric of the hall and stables went to auction. Some of the furnishings of the house, including oak panelling and the Waterloo Staircase were taken to Carrick Hill in Adelaide, South Australia. Demolition began in 1935; however, it was never completed and some ruins remain standing. Today some of the former estate land is used as a Scout and Guide camp and a local wildlife trust and new buildings are used for residential courses. It was created in 1815 for Henry Paget, 2nd Earl of Uxbridge, a hero of the Battle of Waterloo, second in command to the Duke of Wellington.
