Beatservice
Beatservice Records (established 10 October 1994 in Tromsø, Norway) is a Norwegian record label releasing electronic music. It was initiated by Vidar Hanssen who was DJing for a local student radio with the program ''The Beatservice Radio Show'' at the time. Beatservice Records have released music ranging from minimalistic ambient via house and experimental techno to drum and bass. The label was an important factor in the mid-to-late 1990s popularity of the Tromsø based electronic music scene, both in Norway and elsewhere. It has released music by artists such as Biosphere, Elektrofant, Aedena Cycle, Kolar Goi, Flunk, Ralph Myerz, Xploding Plastix, Teebee, Sternklang, Kim Hiorthøy, Howard Maple, Bjørn Torske and Frost. Xploding Plastix
Xploding Plastix is a Norwegian electronic music duo, consisting of Jens Petter Nilsen and Hallvard Wennersberg Hagen. Biography Jens Petter Nilsen and Hallvard Wennersberg Hagen (formerly in Norwegian black metal band Kvist) formed the group in early 1999, and submitted their first demotape in 2000. Their song, "Treat Me Mean, I need the Reputation" became an instant classic when it was released as a 7" on Beatservice Records in 2000. It was later re-released in 2002 on Hospital Records and championed by LTJ Bukem, Coldcut, and Grooverider. Their first album, '' Amateur Girlfriends Go Proskirt Agents'', was released in 2001 on Beatservice, and re-issued in 2004 by Palm Pictures. Flunk
Flunk is a Norway, Norwegian electronic music, electronic band consisting of producer Ulf Nygaard, guitarist Jo Bakke, vocalist Anja Øyen Vister, and bassist Ole Kristian Wetten. Drummer Erik Ruud played with the band between 2012 and 2020. Biography Flunk began as a project between Ulf Nygaard and Jo Bakke in Oslo, Norway in late 2000 and early 2001. Beginning as an instrumental and sampled-vocal project, they were signed for a track on a compilation by Beatservice Records in the winter of 2001. On hearing the finished track, label manager Vidar Hanssen signed the still-unnamed band for a full album. During the summer of 2001, the duo recorded most of the album and Vister improvised the vocals. Afterward, Bakke layered the guitars, but it would be a year before the album was completed and released. Rune Brøndbo
Rune "Sternklang" Brøndbo (born 2 March 1968 in Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (keyboards, guitar) and composer, known for recording with various notable bands including Wibutee and Sternklang. He is the cousin of the DDE drummer Eskil Brøndbo and vocalist Bjarne Brøndbo Career Brøndbo has made himself noticed with his band Sternklang releasing four records within a decade (1997–2006). Aedena Cycle
Aedena Cycle is a former Norwegian electronic music group from Tromsø, composed of Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge (from Röyksopp), Kolbjørn Lyslo and Gaute Barlindhaug. The quartet released an EP called "The Travellers' Dream EP" on R&S/Apollo in 1994. This was the first official release involving Berge and Brundtland, who later formed the world-renowned group Röyksopp. After this, Aedena Cycle was a solo project, with only Barlindhaug left from the original line up. Barlindhaug released two albums on Beatservice Records as Aedena Cycle. The album "Albite" came out in 1997 and "Cargo Cult" was released in 1999. In 2001 Barlindhaug had to change the artist name from Aedena Cycle to Kolar Goi because the creator of the American graphic novel The Aedena Cycle had the copyright to the name. Gaute Barlindhaug
Gaute Barlindhaug is an electronic musician from Tromsø, Norway. He is currently known under the artist name Kolar Goi. Career As a member of the quartet Aedena Cycle, together with Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge from Röyksopp, and Kolbjørn Lyslo, he was a part of the second generation of the Tromsø techno scene. In 1994, they released the acclaimed ''The Travellers’ Dream'' EP on the Belgium record label Apollo. A few compilations contributions and some rare live appearances followed, before the members went in different directions. In the years to follow, Barlindhaug contributed to notable Tromsø acts, such as Alanïa and Drum Island. In 1997, Aedena Cycle resurfaced as a solo project from Gaute Barlindhaug. Ralph Myerz and the Jack Herren Band is a Norwegian electronica/ hip-hop group/producer. Career The band was formed in 1997. They released a 7" and a 12" on Telle Records. In 2002, they were signed by the U.S. label Emperor Norton Records and released ''A Special EP'', followed by the full-length ''A Special Album'' was released May 20, 2003, and received a positive review in ''CMJ''. ''CMJ'' did a promotion with the band as well, and commented on their influences: "influenced by old-school porn soundtracks and Russ Meyer flicks--what could be better?"
