Bear Creek Springs is an unincorporated community in Boone County, Arkansas, United States. It is the location of (or is the nearest community to) Bear Creek Motel, which is located on U.S. 65 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Major highways * * * History In the nineteenth century or earlier, there was a Shawnee village called Shawneetown located along the banks of Bear Creek. The exact location was not known. Prior to having the name Bear Creek Springs, the area had a post office called Francis. It is unknown why that name was used. In the years before the Civil War, a community existed in the area due to clean water and a great deal of game. It also served as a stopping place for settlers to camp as they headed west. Boone County is located in the U.S. state of Arkansas, along the Missouri border. As of the 2020 census, the population was 37,373. The county seat is Harrison. It is Arkansas's 62nd county, formed on April 9, 1869. Boone County is part of the Harrison, AR Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Boone County was formed from the eastern portion of Carroll County. Contrary to popular belief, it was not named for frontiersman Daniel Boone. It was originally called ''Boon'', since the residents believed it would be a "boon" to all who settled there. The county's first newspaper, begun in 1870, was the ''Boon County Advocate''. However, when Governor Powell Clayton signed the act, creating the county 1869 it was titled ''An Act to Organize and Establish the County of Boone and for Other Purposes''. Bear Creek Motel
The Bear Creek Motel is a historic motel on United States Route 65 in Bear Creek Springs, Arkansas. It is a single T-shaped stone and concrete building, built in 1936 to replace a wood-framed tourist accommodation that had burned down. The building has a distinctive wave-shaped concrete roof, intended to lure travelers off the road, and houses five guest rooms and an office. The wave shape is continued in the guest rooms, which have barrel-vaulted ceilings, and are also finished in concrete and stone veneer. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. Harrison, Arkansas
Harrison is a city and the county seat of Boone County, Arkansas, United States. It is named after General Marcus LaRue Harrison, a surveyor who laid out the city along Crooked Creek at Stifler Springs. According to 2019 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city was 13,069, up from 12,943 at the 2010 census and it is the 30th largest city in Arkansas based on official 2019 estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. Harrison is the principal city of the Harrison Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Boone and Newton counties. U.S. Route 65 (US 65) is a north–south United States highway in the southern and midwestern United States. The southern terminus of the route is at U.S. Route 425 in Clayton, Louisiana. The northern terminus is at Interstate 35 just south of Interstate 90 in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Parts of its modern route in Iowa and historic route in Minnesota follow the old Jefferson Highway.
