Bear Creek (Big River Tributary)
Bear Creek is a stream in northwestern St. Francois County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary of the Big River. The stream headwaters arise in the Terre du Lac recreation community west of Bonne Terre at and the stream flows north passing under Missouri Route 47 and on to its confluence with the Big River at . Big River (Missouri)
The Big River is a tributary of the Meramec River in east-central Missouri. The river rises in western Iron County near the summit of Johnson Mountain just north of Missouri Route 32 and approximately 3.5 miles southeast of the community of Enough. It flows through Washington, Saint Francois, and Jefferson counties. It forms part of the boundary between Jefferson and Saint Francois counties and also part of the boundary between Jefferson and Washington counties. It empties into the Meramec River opposite Eureka where the Meramec forms the border between Jefferson and Saint Louis counties. It is also known as a river's source. Bonne Terre, Missouri
Bonne Terre ( ) is a city in St. Francois County, Missouri, United States with a population of 6,864 at the 2010 census. Situated in the Southeast Missouri Lead District, lead mining shaped the history and character of the area from the earliest French settlers in the 1720´s until today, even though Bonne Terre Mine established by St. Joseph lead mining company in 1864 closed in 1962. Mine tailing piles eroded, and contaminated the area as dust, posing residential hazards or were washed into the Big River. Only in 1992, the Bonne Terre Mine Tailings Site was listed as a Superfund Site; as of 2022 remediation is still ongoing. The Bonne Terre Depot from 1909, the St. Joe Lead Company Administration Building and the Bonne Terre Mine, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Missouri Route 47
Route 47 is a highway in eastern Missouri. Its northern terminus is at Route 79 near Winfield; its southern terminus is at U.S. Route 67 in Bonne Terre. Route description The highway begins at Route 79 in Winfield, MO, where it travels due west towards Troy and Hawk Point, where it turns south and meets Interstate 70 in Warrenton. After Warrenton, the highway continues south to Marthasville, where it intersects with Route 94. The two highways share a concurrency through the Missouri River bottomlands for approximately 4 miles to near Dutzow.
