Be'eri Massacre
On 7 October 2023, in the opening attacks of the 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel, Hamas militants carried out a massacre at Be'eri, an Israeli kibbutz near the Gaza Strip. Around 70 Hamas militants of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, al-Qassam Brigades, Nuseirat Battalion, along with Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, DFLP militants had attacked the kibbutz and at least 130 people were killed in the attack, including women (such as peace activist Vivian Silver), children, toddlers, and one infant, claiming the lives of 10% of the farming community's residents. Dozens of homes were also burned down. 2023 Hamas Attack On Israel
A series of coordinated attacks, led by the Palestinian Islamist militant group Hamas, from the Gaza Strip into bordering areas in Israel, commenced on 7 October 2023, a Sabbath day and date of several Jewish holidays. Re'im Music Festival Massacre
On 7 October 2023, the Palestinian Islamist militant group Hamas initiated a surprise invasion of Israel from the Gaza Strip. As part of the attack, 364 civilians were killed and many more wounded by Hamas at the Supernova Sukkot Gathering, an open-air music festival celebrating the Jewish holiday of Sukkot near kibbutz Re'im. Kfar Aza Massacre
On 7 October 2023, around 70 Hamas militants attacked Kfar Aza, a kibbutz about from the border with the Gaza Strip, massacring residents and 2023 Israel–Hamas war hostage crisis, abducting several hostages. Kfar Aza had more than 700 residents prior to the attack, and it took two days for the Israel Defense Forces to regain full control of the area. While the exact total of Israelis killed is yet unknown, as of 15 October 52 were listed as dead, and a further 20 or more were missing. The attack is notable for claims of brutality in the form of beheadings, dismemberment, and victims having been burned alive. Netiv HaAsara Attack
The Netiv HaAsara massacre occurred during the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October 2023. Thirty-five Hamas militants, some via paragliders and most via car, attacked Netiv HaAsara, an Israeli moshav close to the border fence. The militants killed at least 20 people, including in some cases members of the same family. Before the massacre, the moshav was home to approximately 900 residents. Vivian Silver
Vivian Silver (; February 2, 1949 – October 7, 2023) was a Canadian-Israeli peace activist and women's rights activist. She was killed in the Be'eri massacre, a part of the 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel. Early life and education Silver was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Silver first visited Israel in 1968, during her junior year of college. She studied abroad at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where she studied psychology and English literature. Silver was also heavily involved in the North American Jewish Students Network, where she was the administrator of the Jewish Student Press Service. In this capacity, Silver began publishing articles about Israeli–Palestinian relations.
