Bazaleti Lake
The Bazaleti Lake ( ka, ბაზალეთის ტბა) is a lake in eastern Georgia some 60 km northwest of the nation's capital Tbilisi and 5 km south of the town of Dusheti. The surface area of the lake is 1.22 km2. and its maximum depth is 30 m. It is known that Bazaleti lake has an outflow but it has not been discovered. Lake is used for fish culture, irrigation and recreation. History The nearby village and the historical district around the lake are also known as Bazaleti. Dusheti () is a town in Georgia (country), Georgia, the administrative center of Dusheti Municipality, in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti mkhare, region, 54 km northeast of the nation's capital of Tbilisi. History Dusheti is on both banks of the small, mountainous Dushetis-Khevi River in the foothills of the Greater Caucasus range at an elevation of 900 m. The Battle of Bazaleti ( ka, ბაზალეთის ბრძოლა, ''bazalet’is brdzola'') was fought between the two rival Georgian parties centered respectively on Teimuraz I of Kakheti and his defiant noble Giorgi Saakadze in the fall of 1626. The battle was a culmination of the power struggle that evolved after the Georgian nobles rallied behind Teimuraz and Saakadze and recovered much of eastern Georgian kingdoms of Kartli and Kakheti from the Iranian occupation. Shah Abbas I of Iran used the rivalry between Teimuraz and Saakadze to divide the Georgians into two opposing parties and to punish Saakadze who had formerly fought under the Iranian ranks. The battle took place at the Bazaleti Lake in eastern Georgia, some northwest of Tbilisi.
