Bayscape
Bayscape is a planned skyscraper development in Cardiff Bay, Wales. Originally planned to be completed in 2013, the development underwent a redesign by Rio Architects that was approved on 13 June 2013. Plans Phase I of the development includes 115 apartments in two blocks alongside three commercial units. Phase II of the development was initially planned to comprise 170 apartments in a 28 storey tower, but is undergoing redesign as of early 2019. The development site is located in the £1 billion regeneration project in Cardiff Bay, the Cardiff International Sports Village. The site of the project is situated along Victoria Wharf next to the River Ely and Cardiff International White Water, linked to the Pont y Werin footbridge and Waterbus stop. Cardiff International Sports Village ( cy, Pentref Chwaraeon Rhyngwladol Caerdydd) is located in Cardiff Bay in the city of Cardiff, Wales. It is one of the largest Urban renewal, regeneration projects currently in the UK and is a Public-private partnership, public-private funded project. The site currently has a 50-metre (164 ft) Olympic standard Cardiff International Pool, swimming pool, an Ice Arena Wales, ice rink and a Cardiff International White Water, white water canoeing and kayaking centre. Upon completion, an indoor snow centre with real snow for skiing and snowboarding, and a hotel were also planned. Other proposals included a 220-metre (722 ft) observation tower and a super-casino, although both these schemes are unlikely to ever be realised. Cardiff Bay ( cy, Bae Caerdydd; historically Tiger Bay; colloquially "The Bay") is an area and freshwater lake in Cardiff, Wales. The site of a former tidal bay and estuary, it serves as the river mouth of the River Taff and Ely. The body of water was converted into a lake as part of a UK Government redevelopment project, involving the damming of the rivers by the Cardiff Bay Barrage in 1999. The barrage impounds the rivers from the Severn Estuary, providing flood defence and the creation of a permanent non-tidal high water lake with limited access to the sea, serving as a core feature of the redevelopment of the area in the 1990s. River Ely
The River Ely ( cy, Afon Elái) is in South Wales flowing generally southeast, from Tonyrefail to Cardiff. The river is about long. The Ely's numerous sources lie in the mountains to the south of Tonypandy, near the town of Tonyrefail, rising in the eastern slopes of Mynydd Penygraig (Penygraig) and Mynydd y Gilfach ( Penrhiwfer) and the western slopes of Mynydd Dinas ( Williamstown), whose eastern slopes feed the Rhondda by Porth. Cardiff International White Water ( cy, Dŵr Gwyn Rhyngwladol Caerdydd) is an Olympic standard white water rafting centre based at the Cardiff International Sports Village in Cardiff Bay. The centre opened on 26 March 2010, after taking two years to build the £13.3m venue, which is the first on-demand white water centre in the UK. Pont Y Werin
Pont y Werin (Welsh for ''The People's Bridge'') is a pedestrian and cyclist bridge spanning the River Ely between Cardiff Bay and Penarth, Wales. Costing approximately £4.5 million, Pont y Werin crosses between the Cardiff International Sports Village and Penarth, allowing the public to travel to the Sports Village via Cogan railway station. Opened on 14 July 2010, the bascule bridge completes the 6.5 mile (10.5 km) Cardiff Bay circular walk and cycle route, and incorporates a 20-metre opening section to allow river traffic to pass. Funding The project to build Pont y Werin ("the People's Bridge") received a pledge of funding from the Big Lottery Fund, and Sustrans, intending to complete the bridge by summer 2010. The Cardiff Waterbus is a water bus service operated along the River Taff in Cardiff, the capital of Wales. Services are operated by 4 separate companies, Cardiff Cats Ltd (operating as Cardiff Waterbus), Cardiff Cruises Ltd, Cardiff Boats Ltd, and Aquabus Water Transport Solutions Ltd, both for the leisure market and for commuters, but charter services are also offered.
