Bayport (LIRR Station)
Bayport was a station stop along the Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. It was located on Railroad Street between Oakwood and Snedecor Avenues in Bayport, New York, and was the easternmost station along the Montauk Branch in the Town of Islip. History The depot location was donated by Wilhelm Steins, who emigrated from The Principality of Waldeck to Bayport and settled much of what is now Bayport Avenue. This depot was located on the northeastern corner of Bayport Ave and Railroad Avenue across from the then-famous Frieman Hotel. It was opened in March 1869 by the South Side Railroad of Long Island and was razed around 1903. Designed by Bradford Gilbert, the second depot opened on August 10, 1903, and contained a passing siding, sometimes used for freight. Additionally, it had a connection to the South Shore Traction Company trolleys, which were later replaced by Suffolk Traction Company trolleys. Bayport was a town in La Pointe County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. When La Pointe County was established in 1845, it consisted of all of present-day Bayfield, Ashland, and Douglas counties. The county also consisted of only one town: the Town of La Pointe. This situation continued until March 1856, when the town of Bayport was created. The Bayport Container Terminal, or simply the Bayport Terminal, is a major deep water port in the Greater Houston area in Texas (United States). This relatively new terminal, part of the Port of Houston, is designed to handle standardized cargo containers and offload the nearby Barbours Cut Terminal, which has no further room for expansion. The Bayport Terminal is situated along the Bayport Ship Channel off Galveston Bay, between La Porte, Texas and Seabrook, Texas (adjacent to Shoreacres and El Jardin). This channel itself feeds into the larger Houston Ship Channel, which runs from Houston, through Galveston Bay, to the Gulf of Mexico. The Bayport Industrial District is a large commercial real-estate development located in southeast Harris County, Texas, within the Bay Area of Greater Houston. It is one of the two industrial districts in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of La Porte (the other being the Battleground Industrial District). It is located adjacent to both La Porte and Pasadena. In 1965 the City of Pasadena and the City of Houston both annexed an area that included the site of Bayport resulting in a lawsuit between Pasadena and City of Houston. Houston was joined by Harris County and Humble Oil & Refining Company in the lawsuit. In 1969 the Supreme Court of Texas reversed lower court rulings that had sustained Houston's motion for summary judgment and upheld the validity of Pasadena's 1965 annexation of the disputed territory. The Hardy Boys, brothers Frank and Joe Hardy, are fictional characters who appear in several mystery series for children and teens. The series revolves around teenagers who are amateur sleuths, solving cases that stumped their adult counterparts. The characters were created by American writer Edward Stratemeyer, the founder of book-packaging firm Stratemeyer Syndicate. The books themselves were written by several ghostwriters, most notably Leslie McFarlane, under the collective pseudonym Franklin W. Dixon. The Hardy Boys have evolved since their debut in 1927. From 1959 to 1973, the first 38 books were extensively revised, largely to remove depictions of racial stereotypes; they were also targeted towards younger readers by being rewritten in a simpler, action-oriented style to compete with television.
