Bayard Clarke
Bayard Clarke (March 17, 1815 – June 20, 1884) was a United States representative from New York. Biography Born in New York City on March 17, 1815, Clarke was a member of one of the city's oldest and most prominent families. He graduated from Geneva College in 1835, studied law, and was admitted to the bar. From 1836 to 1840 he was attaché to Lewis Cass, United States Minister to France. While in France he was a student in the Royal Cavalry School. Upon returning to the United States, Clarke joined the United States Army, receiving a commission as a second lieutenant in the 8th Infantry in March, 1841. He transferred to the 2nd Dragoons in September, 1841. During his service Clarke took part in the Seminole Wars in Florida. Clarke resigned from the army in December, 1843 and practiced law in New York City and Westchester County. ''Sartoris'' is a novel, first published in 1929, by the American author William Faulkner. It portrays the decay of the Mississippi aristocracy following the social upheaval of the American Civil War. The 1929 edition is an abridged version of Faulkner's original work. The full text was published in 1973 as '' Flags in the Dust''. Faulkner's great-grandfather William Clark Falkner, himself a colonel in the American Civil War, served as the model for Colonel John Sartoris. Faulkner also fashioned other characters in the book on local people from his hometown Oxford. Bayard Elfvin (born February 1, 1981) is a retired American soccer goalkeeper who is an assistant coach with the Northwestern University women' soccer team. Elfvin played professionally in the USL First Division and the second Major Indoor Soccer League. He was a member of the United States national beach soccer team which competed at both the 2006 and 2007 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cups. Player College Elfvin led Div. Bayard Veiller (January 2, 1869 – January 16, 1943) was an American playwright, screenwriter, producer and film director. He wrote for 32 films between 1915 and 1941. Biography He was born on January 2, 1869, in Brooklyn, New York to Philip Bayard Veiller. He was married to English actress Margaret Wycherly from 1901 to 1922; their son, Anthony Veiller, was also a screenwriter. Veiller first broke into Broadway theatre with ''The Primrose Path'', a play that he wrote and produced. Bayard Taylor (January 11, 1825December 19, 1878) was an American poet, literary critic, translator, travel author, and diplomat. As a poet, he was very popular, with a crowd of more than 4,000 attending a poetry reading once, which was a record that stood for 85 years. His travelogues were popular in both the United States and Great Britain. He served in diplomatic posts in Russia and Prussia.
