Alfred Baur (1865–1951) was born in Andelfingen, Switzerland, ( Zurich). He attended school in Winterthur and joined a large international trading company which posted him in Colombo, Ceylon. When Baur came back to Switzerland in 1906, he settled in Geneva. During his travels Alfred Baur developed a passion for Oriental art. Interest in Oriental art had grown increasingly since the end of the previous century, stimulated as it was by scientific research, archeological excavation and the writings of a number of European experts. Johann Wilhelm Baur, Joan Guiliam Bouwer, or Bauer ( Strasbourg, 31 May 1607 - Vienna, 1 January 1640) was a German engraver, etcher and miniature painter. He is famous for a series of illustrations of Ovid's ''Metamorphoses''. Biography According to Houbraken, he learned to draw and paint from the miniaturist Friedrich Brentel in Strasbourg, before embarking on a Grand Tour to Rome, where he painted for ''Brassiano'', a known patron of the arts. He specialized in watercolors of architectural follies in perspective, and for this reason was often employed to make pictures of gardens. He had the habit of talking when he was concentrating, and was known to have conversations with inanimate objects. Maria Agnes Henriëtte "Mieke" Andela-Baur (5 February 1923 – 2 January 2016) was a Dutch politician, she served as member of the House of Representatives for the Christian Democratic Appeal between 1976 and 1986. Karl Baur (November 13, 1911 – October 12, 1963) was a German test pilot, flight instructor and engineer. His friends referred to him truly as "A Pilot's Pilot". Early life Karl Baur was born November 13, 1911 in Laichingen, Württemberg, Germany. In 1927 he attended a summer camp for young boys interested in aviation, and it was here that Baur developed his desire to fly. He became involved in the world of glider flying during the 1930s, where with the F1 Fledermaus glider he completed the necessary distance, height, and acrobatic flying requirements to earn an International Silver C Badge in 1934. Harry Baur (12 April 1880 – 8 April 1943) was a French actor. Initially a stage actor, Baur appeared in about 80 films between 1909 and 1942. He gave an acclaimed performance as the composer Ludwig van Beethoven in the biopic ''Beethoven's Great Love'' (''Un grand amour de Beethoven'', 1936), directed by Abel Gance, and as Jean Valjean in Raymond Bernard's version of ''Les Misérables'' (1934).
