Battleford (federal Electoral District)
Battleford was a federal electoral district in Saskatchewan, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1908 to 1925. This riding was created in 1907 following the admission of Saskatchewan into the Canadian Confederation in 1905 from parts of the Northwest Territories ridings of Assiniboia West, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatchewan and Strathcona ridings. It was abolished in 1924 when it was redistributed into Rosetown and South Battleford ridings. Strathcona (federal Electoral District)
Strathcona was a federal electoral district in the Northwest Territories and Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1904 to 1925. It was centred on the town (later city) of Strathcona, later a part of Edmonton. When it was created, the riding was part of the North-West Territories. It was huge. It stretched from the present western boundary of Alberta (at the time the western boundary of the provisional district of Alberta) east well into what is now the Province of Saskatchewan. It was wholly on the south side of the North Saskatchewan River, while Edmonton was on the north side. In 1905, when Saskatchewan and Alberta became provinces, the riding found itself split between them. In 1907, it was redrawn to fall entirely in Alberta, with the Saskatchewan part being transferred to the Battleford riding. This is a list of Canada's 338 federal electoral districts (commonly referred to as '' ridings'' in Canadian English) as defined by the ''2013 Representation Order''. Canadian federal electoral districts are constituencies that elect members of Parliament to Canada's House of Commons every election. Provincial electoral districts often have names similar to their local federal counterpart, but usually have different geographic boundaries. Thomas Henry McConica
Thomas Henry McConica (September 21, 1855 – January 19, 1933) was an American-born lawyer, farmer and political figure in Ohio and Saskatchewan, Canada. He represented Battleford in the House of Commons of Canada from 1921 to 1925 as a Progressive Party member. He was born in Fulton, Ohio, or Marengo, Ohio, the son of John C. McConica. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1881, and from Cincinnati Law School in 1883. He lived in Cincinnati until 1887. He married Flora Banker in 1884. He practised law in Findlay, Ohio and served in the Ohio Senate from 1892 to 1896 as a Republican; McConica was President of the Ohio Senate from 1894 to 1896. Two of his sons had settled in Luseland, Saskatchewan and McConica and his wife joined them there in 1909. He served two years as registrar for the court in Kerrobert. Henry Oswald Wright
Henry Oswald Wright (November 20, 1880 – April 25, 1956) was a Canadian rancher and political figure in Saskatchewan, Canada. He represented Battleford in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1921 as a supporter of Sir Robert Borden's Unionist Government. He was born in West Templeton, Quebec, the son of E.A. Wright and E.A. Langford, and was educated in Ottawa Ottawa (, ; Canadian French: ) is the capital city of Canada. Albert Champagne
Albert Champagne (June 5, 1866 – October 12, 1937) was a Saskatchewan rancher, hotel-owner and political figure. He represented Battleford in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1905 to 1908 and in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal from 1908 to 1917. He was born in Ottawa in 1866, the son of Séraphin Champagne. He apprenticed as a tailor there before enrolling in the North-West Mounted Police in 1885. In 1895, Champagne left the police and purchased a large ranch near Battleford, Saskatchewan. He later sold the ranch and took over the operation of a hotel in Battleford, buying another hotel there a few years later. He was also involved in the sale of horses. In 1904, Champagne became the first mayor of Battleford. He ran unsuccessfully for reelection to the federal parliament for Battleford in 1921. He died at Ottawa in 1937. Saskatchewan was a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Saskatchewan, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1906 to 1908. This riding was created in following the admission of Saskatchewan into the Canadian Confederation in 1905 from the former Northwest Territories riding Provisional District of Saskatchewan. The sitting member in the prior riding at the time was John Henderson Lamont, who resigned in 1905. The only member actually elected to this seat was George Ewan McCraney, in a by-election in 1906. Edmonton was a federal electoral district represented in the House of Commons of Canada. It was located initially in the Northwest Territories, and following its creation in 1905, the province of Alberta (although between 1905 and 1907 Edmonton also included parts of Saskatchewan). This riding was created in 1903, and was abolished in 1914 when it was redistributed into Edmonton East, Edmonton West and Strathcona ridings.
