Battle Of Chasiv Yar
The battle of Chasiv Yar is an ongoing military engagement in the Russian invasion of Ukraine between the Russian Armed Forces and the Armed Forces of Ukraine for control of the city of Chasiv Yar and surrounding villages. The battle began on 4 April 2024 with the first direct assault on the city by Russian forces, and has thus far seen the confirmed capture of the Kanal district and the claimed capture of the Novyi district by Russia, the two easternmost of the city, and the advance of their forces to all land east of the Siverskyi Donets – Donbas Canal separating the city. Due to its high elevation and strategic location in Donetsk Oblast, Chasiv Yar is regarded as a pivotal provincial city. The eastern Ukraine campaign is a theatre of operation in the ongoing 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine that affects three provinces ( oblasts) in the eastern part of Ukraine: Donetsk Oblast and Luhansk Oblast (collectively the Donbas) and Kharkiv Oblast. Storm-Z (russian: Шторм-Z, Shtorm-Z) is a series of penal military units established by Russia by April 6, 2023, at the latest. The 3rd Border Detachment named after the Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevgeny Pikus, also known as Pomsta Brigade, ( uk, помста, , Revenge) is an assault brigade of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine that is part of the Offensive Guard.
