Stephen Batman
Stephen or Stephan Batman or Bateman (died 1584) was an English translator and author. Life Batman was born at Bruton, Somerset, and, after a preliminary education in the school of his native town, went to Cambridge, where he had the reputation of being a learned man and an excellent preacher. It is supposed he was the Bateman who in 1534 took the degree of LL.B., being at that time a priest and a student of six years' standing. Afterwards Archbishop Parker selected him as one of his domestic chaplains, and employed him in the collection of the library now deposited in Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. Batman asserts that he collected 6,700 books for the archbishop, though this is probably an exaggeration. In 1573 he was rector of Merstham, Surrey. He was also Doctor of Divinity and parson of Newington Butts in the same county. In 1582 he was one of the domestic chaplains of Henry Carey, Lord Hunsdon. He resided for some time at Leeds, Kent. John Batman
John Batman (21 January 18016 May 1839) was an Australian grazier, entrepreneur and explorer. He is best known for his role in the founding of Melbourne. Born and raised in the then-British colony of New South Wales, Batman settled in Van Diemen's Land (modern-day Tasmania) in the 1820s, where he rose to prominence for hunting bushrangers and as a leader of massacres of Aboriginal people in the Black War. During this time he was notorious for committing multiple mass killings of Aboriginal people. He later co-founded the Port Phillip Association and led an expedition which explored the Port Phillip area on the Australian mainland with the goal of establishing a new settlement. In 1835, Batman negotiated a treaty with Aboriginal people in by Port Phillip offering them tools, blankets and food in exchange for thousands of hectares of land. Ira Coleman Batman (January 20, 1862 – April 10, 1934) was an American jurist and politician. He was a member of the Indiana state legislature and was a judge of the Indiana Appellate Court from 1916 to 1924. The historic Batman House in Bloomington, Indiana was built for him circa 1890. Daniel Batman (20 March 1981 – 26 June 2012) was an Australian sprinter. He was the Australian national men's 200-metres champion in 2005 and 2008. He competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics and his best international achievement was a sixth place at the 2003 World Indoor Championships. Batman was born in Melbourne, Victoria. He attended The Scots College and Cranbrook School. He claimed to be a direct descendant of John Batman, the founder of Melbourne but John Batman's only son, John Charles Batman, died aged just 8 years old, reportedly by drowning in the Yarra River, but rumoured to have died of syphilis which his father carried. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj (1930 or 1931 – 15 November 2004) was an Iranian doctor and writer. He is best known for believing increased water consumption is the cure for most disease, which is considered quackery by medical experts. Life and family Fereydoon Batmanghelidj was born in Iran in 1930 or 1931. He attended secondary school in the United Kingdom, at Fettes College in Scotland, and later graduated from St Mary's Hospital Medical School of London University. He then practiced medicine in the United Kingdom, before returning to Iran. There he became a wealthy entrepreneur, helping in the development of hospitals and medical centres, and in sports projects, including the Ice Palace ice skating rink in Tehran.
