Batang Kankaloo – Caloocan is a professional basketball team in the MPBL and the Pilipinas Super League. It is owned by the city government of Caloocan. The team was previously sponsored by Victory Liner, Inc. History In 2017, the Supremos formally joined the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). In 2021, the team changed their name to Caloocan Excellence. Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League
The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) is a men's professional basketball league in the Philippines. History Manny Pacquiao launched the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League on August 29, 2017, starting off as a semi-professional league. According to Pacquiao, the league is not intended to be a competitor to the Philippine Basketball Association, the country's top professional basketball league. The MPBL was intended to feature both a regional commercial and barangay-level league with teams on the commercial side to have a home locality in addition to a corporate sponsor. In the first months, the league hosted teams from Luzon with future plans to expand to accommodate teams based in Visayas and Mindanao like the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association. The Pilipinas Super League (PSL) is a professional basketball league in the Philippines. History The Pilipinas Super League (PSL) was founded in December 2021 by former officials of another league; the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup. It was established by former VisMin Cup CEO Rocky Chan and former COO Chelito Caro. Chan assumed the post of PSL President and Caro as the league commissioner. Former professional basketballer Marc Pingris was appointed as commissioner in January 2022 succeeding Caro. The PSL aims to garner at least 10 teams for its inaugural season. The 2018 MPBL season is the inaugural season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. For the tournament for this season was named the Rajah Cup, also known as the Anta–Rajah Cup after sponsor Anta Sports. The tournament opened on January 25, 2018 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City. After the opening ceremonies, the game between Parañaque Patriots and Caloocan Supremos immediately followed. All games were aired on ABS-CBN Sports (ABS-CBN Sports and Action Channel 23 & HD Channel 166). The tournament ended on April 19 with the Batangas City Athletics defeating Muntinlupa Cagers in the 2018 MPBL Rajah Cup Finals. 2021 MPBL Invitational
The 2021 MPBL Invitational, officially known as the Chooks-to-Go MPBL Invitational powered by TM for sponsorship reasons, was an invitational tournament that serves as the prelude to the 2022–23 MPBL season. It commenced on December 11, 2021 and ended on December 23, 2021. The tournament was also the first for the MPBL since it was granted professional status by the Games and Amusements Board. The Invitational was also the first professional sports event in the Philippines to allow live audiences since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, with the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, the venue for the tournament, only allowed to be at 50 percent capacity. 2019–20 MPBL Season
The 2019–2020 MPBL season, known as the MPBL Lakan Season or Chooks-to-Go MPBL Lakan Season for sponsorship reasons, was the third season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League and the second full season with a national scope. It was officially opened June 12, 2019 at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay, which coincided with the Philippine Independence Day. From 26 teams in the last conference, the third season featured 31 team. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines, the season was suspended on March 11, 2020, prior to the deciding games of the Division Finals. It resumed almost a year later, on March 10, 2021, in a bubble set-up in Subic, Zambales.
