Bassam Almusallam
Bassam Almusallam (''Arabic: بسام المسلّم'') is a Kuwaiti award-winning novelist, short story writer, and former assistant editor at KUNA. He has published three books including two short story collections, Under ''the Pigeons Tower'' (2010) and ''The Banner: Stories in The Windward'' (2013) which won Laila al-Othman Prize in the same year. His short story, ''Adham Washing Machine'', won a competition organized by Al-Arabi magazine and the London-based BBC Arabic in 2012. His debut novel, ''Valley of the Sun: The Phoenix Memo'' (2016), explores behind the scenes of the Syrian Civil War following the journey of a Kuwaiti ASU alumnus to join the Nusra Front militia fight against the Assad government between 2013 and 2014. Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) is an official state news wire service based in Kuwait. History and structure KUNA was established in 1956. It was reorganized in 1976 as an independent body. However, it functions as a branch of the Ministry of Information, although it has an independent budget. The agency has a section with the title of Health and Environment which covers regularly updated news on environmental issues. Laila Al-Othman
Laila al-Othman (sometimes Laylā al-'Uthmān) is a Kuwaiti writer, novelist, short story writer, and a famous fictionist who was born into a prominent Kuwaiti family in 1943, and only 22 years later she made her writing debut in a local newspaper featuring her opinion on social and literary issues. During the course of her career, she has published 14 collections of short stories, nine novels, and many news articles. Biography Early life Laila al-Othman, is the fourth girl of the family, she was born in 1943 in Kuwait at a small seaside town. When she was born, her mother threw her out a window because she wanted a son. In the end, al-Othman was saved by the nurse. Many of her future works are inspired by this unfortunate event. BBC Arabic ( ar, بي بي سي عربي) may refer to the Literary Arabic language radio station run by the BBC World Service, as well as the BBC's satellite TV channel, and the website that serves as an Literary Arabic language news portal and provides online access to both the TV and radio broadcasts. The radio service is broadcast from Broadcasting House in London as well as from a BBC Bureau in Cairo. The target audience is in the Arab world (North Africa and Western Asia). Fawwaz Haddad (Arabic: فواز حدّاد) (born 1947) is a Syrian novelist. He was born in Damascus and studied law at Damascus University. He held several jobs before taking up writing full-time. Haddad published his first novel ''Mosaic, Damascus '39'' in 1991.
