Basketball At The 1983 Southeast Asian Games
The basketball tournament at the 1983 Southeast Asian Games took place from 29 May to 5 June 1983. This edition of the tournament featured both men's and women's tournament. All matches took place at the Gay World Stadium in Singapore. Tournament format For both the men's and the women's tournament, the competition was on a round robin format, wherein the top team at the end of the single round wins the gold medal, with the next two team will take home the silver and bronze medals, respectively. 1983 Southeast Asian Games
The 1983 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the 12th Southeast Asian Games, or informally Singapore 1983, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event held in Singapore from 28 May to 6 June 1983. Scheduled to be hosted by Brunei in accordance to the renewed alphabetical rotation of hosting duties, the 1983 SEA Games were offered to be hosted by Singapore as Brunei prepared for its forthcoming independence from the United Kingdom. The games also marked the return of Cambodia, as People's Republic of Kampuchea after an 8-year-long absence since the Khmer Rouge seized power in 1975. The games was opened and closed by Devan Nair, the President of Singapore at the Singapore National Stadium. The final medal tally was led by Indonesia, followed by the Philippines, Thailand and host Singapore. The basketball tournament at the 1981 Southeast Asian Games took place from 7 to 13 December 1981. This edition of the tournament featured both men's and women's tournament. All matches took place at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila. The hosts were able to regain the men's championship title by blasting the defending champions in the Gold Medal Match, 91–74, to avenge their preliminary loss to the same team. Geylang
Geylang is a planning area and township located on the eastern fringe of the Central Region of Singapore, bordering Hougang and Toa Payoh in the north, Marine Parade in the south, Bedok in the east, and Kallang in the west. Geylang is perhaps best known as a red-light district, particularly the areas along Geylang Road. Geylang is also where one of Singapore's oldest Malay settlements, Geylang Serai, is located. The Philippines have dominated the men's events since the sport was played, winning 18 of the 21 events. Malaysia won 13 of the 20 women's events. Starting in 2019, the 3x3 version of the game was played, in addition to the usual 5-on-5 full strength teams.
