Basketball In Andorra
Basketball in Andorra is organized by the Andorran Basketball Federation (Catalan: ''Federació Andorrana de Basquetbol''). Andorran national teams participates in FIBA Europe competitions. The senior teams play in Division C and also in the Games of the Small States of Europe. National league Andorra has got also an amateur men league called Lliga Andorrana de Bàsquet (''Andorran Basketball League''). There are only five teams participating in this competition on 2010-11 season. They play a round-robin regular season and later, the champion is determine in the playoffs. There is also a professional basketball club called BC Andorra, which plays in Liga ACB, the top level of Spanish basketball. Federació Andorrana De Basquetbol
The Andorran Basketball Federation ( ca, Federació Andorrana de Basquetbol) is the governing body of basketball in Andorra. It was founded in 1988. It organizes the internal league and runs the Andorra national basketball team and also the men's and women's national 3x3 teams. The current president of the federation is Manuel Fernández. The Andorra national basketball team is the national team of Andorra. The national team has always represented in the EuroBasket Division C. It also takes part well in Games of the Small States of Europe. History Despite not joining FIBA until 1988, Andorra made its debut in the 1985 Games of the Small States of Europe where, after winning their first game ever against Luxembourg, finished in the last position after losing to Cyprus and Malta. EuroBasket Division C
The FIBA European Championship for Small Countries is the lowest-ranked tier of the biennial FIBA EuroBasket competition, organized by FIBA Europe. History This championship was first introduced in 1988, as the Promotion Cup, the competition organized for the lowest ranked European national basketball teams. Since then, the competition has been held biannually. In 2007, the Promotion Cup was officially renamed EuroBasket Division C. The Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) is a biennial multi-sport event, launched by the Republic of San Marino, organized by and featuring the National Olympic Committees of nine European small states since 1985. The Games are held at the end of May or beginning of June and feature competition in nine Summer Olympic sports. BC Andorra
Bàsquet Club Andorra S.A., also known as MoraBanc Andorra for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball team that is based in Andorra la Vella, Andorra. Though based in Andorra, the club plays in the Spanish basketball league system. The team plays in the LEB Oro with home games played at the Poliesportiu d'Andorra. From 1992 to 1996, BC Andorra played in the top league, the Liga ACB and also the Korać Cup during the 1995–96 season. After being relegated and playing one season in LEB league, the club resigned to its berth and came back to regional competitions. The Liga ACB, known as Liga Endesa for sponsorship reasons, is the top professional basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system. Unió Esportiva Engordany is an Andorran football and basketball club based in Escaldes-Engordany. The club football section plays in Primera Divisió. History The club was founded on 2 October 1980 as Unió Esportiva Engordany Futbol Club in the main venue of Engordany by Manuel Puerta Martín, Manuel Varela Valés and Josep Rodríguez Sànchez.
