Barum (company)
Continental Barum (formerly just Barum) is a manufacturer of rubber tyres based in the Czech Republic under the Barum brand. History The Barum tyre company was created as a subsidiary of Bata Shoes who made rubber soled boots in Czechoslovakia. The high cost of rail transport prompted the Bata company to operate its own fleet of vehicles to transport goods by road and in 1934, to counteract the high costs involved in importing tyres for its fleet of vehicles, the company decided to produce tyres for its own use. In 1945 the three major rubber-producing companies in Czechoslovakia were merged — Bata in Zlín, Rubena in Náchod (Kudrnáč pre-1945) and Mitas (Michelin + Veritas) in Prague-Strašnice and post-war in Hrádek nad Nisou, being originally a subsidiary of Michelin. The Barum Czech Rally Zlín (also called Barum Rallye and Barum Rally Zlín), is a tarmac Rallying, rally held in Zlín, Czech Republic. It is currently part of the European Rally Championship and previously has been part of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. Founded in 1971, it has been a round of the Czechoslovakia Rally Championship in its earliest days. Otrokovice (; german: Otrokowitz) is a town in Zlín District in the Zlín Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 17,000 inhabitants. It is known as an industrial centre.
