Kilian Family
{{more citations needed, date=October 2019 Kilian is the name of a dynasty of German engravers from Augsburg, Germany, that were active there for over a century. The patriarch was Bartholomaus Kilian, a goldsmith, who married Maria Pfeiffelmann and they had two sons Lucas Kilian, Lukas and Wolfgang Kilian, Wolfgang. Bartholomaus died and his wife remarried the engraver Dominicus Custos. Together with him she had three more sons, Raphael Custos, Raphael, David and Jacob Custos (or ''Custodis''). Wolfgang in turn had two sons who became engravers, Bartholomaus Kilian, Bartholomaus the younger and Philipp Kilian, Philipp. Philipp's son Wolfgang Philipp also became an engraver. Matthäus Merian The Younger
Matthäus Merian (1621 – 1687) was a Swiss engraver and portrait painter. Biography He was born in Basel as the eldest son of Matthäus Merian the Elder and his first wife Maria Magdalena née de Bry; like his father he became an engraver. He was the half-brother of Maria Sybilla Merian and the brother of Caspar Merian. He is documented as having served Carl Gustaf Wrangel as an importer of wine and other luxury goods and is known for his portraits. He became a teacher of Bartholomäus Kilian. After the death of his grandfather Johann Theodor de Bry, his father took over his publishing house in Frankfurt, where Matthew the Younger became a pupil of Joachim von Sandrart. François De Poilly
François Poilly, or François de Poilly, (1623Born in 1622 or 1623 according to the sources. –1693) was a French engraver. Biography He was born in Abbeville, the son of a goldsmith who gave him his first drawing lessons. He was apprenticed to the Parisian engraver Pierre Daret. Poilly then travelled to Rome where he stayed for seven years with the engraver Cornelis Bloemaert, where he acquired mastership of the art. He died in Paris. Works Poilly's is noted for approximately 400 engravings. He is known for mainly religious subjects after Raphael, Guido Reni, Annibale Carracci, Pierre Mignard, Charles Le Brun, Nicolas Poussin, Sébastien Bourdon, and Eustache Lesueur.
