Bart Moeyaert
Bart Peter Boudewijn Moeyaert (born 9 June 1964) is a Belgian writer. Early life Moeyaert was born in 1964 in Bruges as the youngest of seven brothers. He is named after the character Bartje in the book series by Anne de Vries and after Baudouin of Belgium (Boudewijn). As is tradition in Belgium, King Baudouin of Belgium is his godfather as Moeyaert is the seventh son in an unbroken succession of sons. Career Writing Moeyaert made his debut in 1983 with the book ''Duet met valse noten''. Moeyaert received the Prijs van de Kinder- en Jeugdjury voor het boek in Vlaanderen award for this book in 1984. In 1989, he published the book ''Suzanne Dantine'' which he considers to be his real debut with him transitioning from writer to author. Moeyaert later reworked the story into a new book '' Wespennest'' (1997). Gerda Dendooven
Gerda Dendooven (born 10 May 1962) is a Belgian illustrator. She has won numerous awards for her work, including the Gouden Uil, the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs and the Boekenpauw on several occasions. Early life Dendooven was born in 1962 in Marke, Belgium. She studied ''Vrije Grafiek'' at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. Career Children's literature In 1987, she illustrated her first children's book ''Geen gezoen, vlug opendoen'' by Ed Franck. Dendooven went on to illustrate many books by many different authors, including Herman Brusselmans, Toon Tellegen and Bart Moeyaert. Other authors include Elvis Peeters, Michael De Cock and Wally De Doncker. In 1996, she was nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award. Vlaamse Opera
The Vlaamse Opera (Flemish Opera) is an opera company in Belgium directed by Jan Vandenhouwe which operates in two different opera houses in two Flemish cities, the Vlaamse Opera Antwerp at Van Ertbornstraat 8 and the Vlaamse Opera Ghent at Schouwburgstraat 3. However, the company shares one orchestra, choir, technical team, etc. The organization is mainly financed by the Flemish government and the city councils of Antwerp and Ghent. Permeke Library
The Permeke Library ( nl, Bibliotheek Permeke) is the main public library in Antwerp, Belgium. The library is open 7 days per week and visited by about 2,200 visitors a day. History The library is named after Oscar Permeke, a cousin of Constant Permeke, who used to run the garage Permeke Motors in the building previously. In 1982, the Permeke garage went bankrupt and closed its doors. The library opened on 22 April 2005, the last day on which Antwerp held the title of World Book Capital. Hans Christian Andersen Award
The Hans Christian Andersen Awards are two literary awards given by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), recognising one living author and one living illustrator for their "lasting contribution to children's literature". The writing award was first given in 1956, the illustration award in 1966. The former is sometimes called the "Nobel Prize for children's literature". The awards are named after Hans Christian Andersen, the 19th-century Danish author of fairy tales, and each winner receives the Hans Christian Andersen Medaille (a gold medal with the bust of Andersen) and a diploma. The Collectieve Propaganda van het Nederlandse Boek (CPNB, "Collective Promotion for the Dutch Book") is a Dutch organization that includes representatives of bookstores and publishers, whose goal is to promote Dutch literature. The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award ( sv, Litteraturpriset till Astrid Lindgrens minne) is an international children's literary award established by the Swedish government in 2002 to honour the Swedish children's author Astrid Lindgren (1907–2002). The prize is five million SEK, making it the richest award in children's literature and one of the richest literary prizes in the world. The annual cost of 10 million SEK (in 2008) is financed with tax money.
