Barryroe GAA
Barryoe GAA club is a Gaelic football and Hurling club in the parish of Barryroe in County Cork, Ireland. It draws its players from the villages of Courtmacsherry, Butlerstown, Lislevane and surrounding areas. The club participates in the south west Cork (Carbery) division of Cork and operates at Intermediate A level in hurling and Junior A in football. History The Barryroe Club was founded in 1892 and thus is one of the oldest in the Carbery GAA division. Like many other clubs it has gone out of existence for various periods. Since it was reformed in 1961 however, several Junior A Hurling titles plus a number of minor and Under-21 Championships have been won. Most of its successes have been in hurling. Barryroe won their seventh West Cork Junior A Hurling Championship on Sunday 9 September 2007 in Timoleague defeating Newcestown by 3–12 to 0–6. Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Robbie Kiely (born 16 December 1990) is an Irish Gaelic football player who plays plays his club football for Barryroe GAA in Cork and previously at inter-county level for Tipperary. Career Kiely made his championship debut for Tipperary in 2011 against Louth On 31 July 2016, he started in the half back line as Tipperary defeated Galway in the 2016 All-Ireland Quarter-finals at Croke Park to reach their first All-Ireland semi-final since 1935. On 21 August 2016, Tipperary were beaten in the semi-final by Mayo on a 2-13 to 0-14 scoreline, with Kiely receiving a black card in the first ten minutes of the match for a pull on the jersey of Jason Doherty which the referee David Coldrick deemed as a cynical foul. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The Carbery Junior A Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Bandon Co-op Carbery Junior A Football Championship) is an annual club Gaelic football competition organised by the Carbery Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by junior-ranked teams in West Cork, Ireland, deciding the competition winners through a group and knockout format. Introduced in 1926 as the West Cork Junior Football Championship, it was initially a straight knockout tournament. The competition went through a number of format changes since then, including the introduction of a back-door or second chance for beaten teams. The competition took on its current format in 2022, adding a round-robin group stage and limiting the number of entrants. The series of games begin in May, with the championship culminating with the final in September. The championship includes a knock-out stage and a "back door" for teams defeated in the first round. The South West Junior Championship is an integral part of the wider Cork Junior A Hurling Championship. The 1998 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship was the 68th staging of the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1928. The championship began on 22 April 1998 and ended on 13 September 1998. Clare entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Cork in the Munster final. On 13 September 1998, Cork won the championship following a 2-15 to 1-09 defeat of Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. This was their 17th All-Ireland title overall and their first title since 1995. The 1997 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship was the 67th staging of the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1928. The championship began on 23 April 1997 and ended on 14 September 1997. Tipperary entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final. On 14 September 1997 Clare won the championship following a 1-11 to 1-9 defeat of Galway in the All-Ireland final. Dan Murphy (hurler)
Dan Murphy (born 1977) is an Irish people, Irish Hurling, hurler who played as a midfielder for the Cork GAA, Cork senior team. Born in Ballincollig, County Cork, Murphy first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team, before later joining the under-21 and intermediate sides. He joined the senior panel during the 1997 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, 1997 championship. Murphy went on to play a bit part for Cork, and won one All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland medal, one Munster Senior Hurling Championship, Munster medal and one National Hurling League medal as a non-playing substitute.
