Barris Industries, Inc. was an American game show production company that was founded by Chuck Barris. History Barris founded his company on June 14, 1965 as Chuck Barris Productions. The company's first series was an unsold pilot called '' People Pickers''. Its first successful program was ''The Dating Game''; it was known for producing other hit game shows such as ''The Newlywed Game'' and ''The Gong Show''. Charles Hirsch Barris (June 3, 1929 – March 21, 2017) was an American game show creator, producer, and host. Barris was known for hosting ''The Gong Show'' and creating ''The Dating Game'' and ''The Newlywed Game''. He was also a songwriter who wrote " Palisades Park", recorded by Freddy Cannon and also recorded by Ramones. Barris wrote an autobiography titled ''Confessions of a Dangerous Mind'', which was made into the film of the same name and directed by George Clooney. Early life Barris was born to a Jewish family in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on June 3, 1929, the son of Edith (née Cohen) and Nathaniel Barris, a dentist. He was raised in Lower Merion Township and attended Lower Merion High School. His uncle was singer, songwriter and actor Harry Barris. ''Dollar a Second'' is an American comedy game show hosted by Jan Murray which originally aired from September 20, 1953, to June 14, 1954, on the DuMont Television Network. It was based on the French radio program ''Cent Francs par seconde'' (which had been made into a romantic comedy of the same name at the time of the American debut). Game play Contestants (team or solo player) had to perform various tasks, winning $1 (compared to 100 F oughly €3 in September 2022on the original show) for every second they were onstage, and, unless they were paying the penalty, could quit out at any time. ''Camouflage'' is an American television game show originally produced in 1961–62 and revived in 1980. 1961–62 The original game show was created and produced by Jerry Hammer of Jerry Hammer Productions, directed by Gilbert Cates with Don Morrow as host, and Johnny Gilbert as the announcer (as well as a substitute host for Morrow), with Chet Gould as the show's alternate announcer. Paul Taubman provided the show's live music. Contestants tried to find objects hidden on an electronic board by tracing the outline of the object using a wand. ''Three's a Crowd'' (also known as ''3's a Crowd'') is an American game show originally packaged by Chuck Barris Productions. The first version aired in syndication from September 17, 1979 to February 1, 1980. The second version ran in 1999 on Game Show Network. Syndicated version Hosted by Jim Peck, this version's tagline was "Who knows a man better, his wife or his secretary?" It bore many similarities to Barris' ''The Newlywed Game''. Three sets of husband-wife-secretary teams appeared, and the game started with the men answering three pointed questions, usually referencing their wives and secretaries in ways that would lead to potential marital discord. ''The Bobby Vinton Show'' was a Canadian musical variety television series produced for the CTV Television Network between 1975 and 1978, with a total of 52 episodes broadcast. Featuring Bobby Vinton, a best-selling popular music singer since the early 1960s, the series mixed comedy skits with musical interludes. Appearing on the series as a regular was comedian Billy Van. The series often satirized Vinton's Polish heritage, and its theme song was an "umpah band" rendition of his 1974 song " My Melody of Love" (Vinton also ended each episode by performing the song himself). ''How's Your Mother-in-Law?'' was a comedy game show hosted by Wink Martindale that aired on ABC from December 4, 1967 to March 1, 1968. Geoff Edwards was originally to host the (unrecorded) pilot, but was dropped at the last minute and was replaced by producer Chuck Barris.
