Barrie Chivers
Barrie Chivers (born November 8, 1940) is a Canadian former politician and current lawyer. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1990 to 1993 sitting with the official opposition Alberta New Democrats. Legal career Chivers has been admitted to the law society in Alberta, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. He founded his first law firm in 1973 Wright, Chivers & Co. to practice criminal and labour law. In 1987 after his partner went into provincial politics he founded Chivers-Greckol exclusively in labour, employment and human rights law. He left his practice in 1990 after winning a seat in the legislature. After his defeat from office Chivers resumed his legal career with the firm of Chivers Carpenter Lawyers. He also served as President of the Trade Union Lawyers' Association and a former vice president of the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers. Ryley, Alberta
Ryley is a village in central Alberta, Canada. It is surrounded by Beaver County, along Highway 14 between the City of Edmonton and the Town of Viking. The City of Camrose is approximately south of Ryley. The village was named in 1908 after George Urquhart Ryley, Grand Trunk Pacific Railway Land Commissioner at the time. 1971 Alberta General Election
The 1971 Alberta general election was the seventeenth general election held in the Province of Alberta, Canada on August 30, 1971, to elect seventy-five members of the Alberta Legislature to form the 17th Alberta Legislative Assembly. The Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta led by Peter Lougheed won 49 of 75 seats with 46.4 per cent of the popular vote in the new legislature to form a majority government. Lougheed's Progressive Conservatives defeated the incumbent Social Credit Party led by Premier Harry Strom who won 25 seats with 41.1 per cent of the popular vote. The 1971 election ushered in the Progressive Conservative dynasty in Alberta, which continuously held a majority government for 44 years from 1971 to 2015. The 1993 Alberta general election was held on June 15, 1993, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The Conservative government was re-elected, taking 51 seats out of 83 (61 percent of the seats) but only having support of 45 percent of voters. Louis Wesley Heard (March 8, 1909 – February 27, 1987) was a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta twice. The first stint was from 1948 to 1952 and the second was from 1959 to 1971 sitting with the Social Credit caucus in government both times. Early life Heard was born in Saskatchewan in 1909. Bill Wasyl Diachuk (October 8, 1929 – October 17, 2014) was a municipal and provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He began his political career in Edmonton municipal politics serving two separate stints as a separate school trustee. The first was from 1962 to 1964 and the second from 1966 to 1971. He moved his political career to the provincial level where he served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta sitting with the governing Progressive Conservative caucus from 1971 to 1986.
