Baron Strathspey
Baron Strathspey, of Strathspey in the Counties of Inverness and Moray, is a title that has been created twice, both times in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. On both occasions, the barony was created for an Earl of Seafield. History Barons Strathspey, first creation (1858) It was created for the first time on 14 August 1858 for John Ogilvy-Grant, 7th Earl of Seafield (see the Earl of Seafield for earlier history of this title). This creation became extinct on the death of his son, the eighth Earl and second Baron, in 1884. Trevor Ogilvie-Grant, 4th Baron Strathspey
Trevor Ogilvie-Grant, 4th Baron Strathspey (2 March 1879 – 11 November 1948) was born in New Zealand, the son of a Scottish peer. He inherited his father's subsidiary title under the Peerage of the United Kingdom and became the 4th Baron Strathspey, which gave him a seat in the House of Lords. Strathspey was the second son of Francis Ogilvy-Grant, 10th Earl of Seafield and Ann Trevor Corry Evans. He was born in 1879 in Oamaru in North Otago. He was educated at Warwick House preparatory school in Christchurch (where his elder brother James had also attended), Waitaki Boys' High School and St John's College. For many years, he was the President of the English branch of the Waitaki Old Boys' Association. He married Alice Louisa Hardy-Johnston, daughter of Thomas Masterman Hardy-Johnston of Christchurch, on 19 December 1905 in Tauranga. James Ogilvie-Grant, 11th Earl of Seafield, DL (18 April 1876 – 12 November 1915), briefly known as Viscount Reidhaven in 1888, was a Scottish nobleman. Seafield was born in 1876 in Oamaru, New Zealand. He was the eldest child of Francis William Ogilvy-Grant, 10th Earl of Seafield, and Ann Nina, daughter of Major George Thomas Evans, of County Limerick and of Clooneavin, New Zealand. He had six siblings; four sisters and two brothers. His youngest brother was Trevor Ogilvie-Grant (1879–1948). His youngest sister, Nina Geraldine (1884–1951), married Sir Lees Knowles, 1st Baronet in 1915. Francis William Ogilvy-Grant, 10th Earl of Seafield, 2nd Baron Strathspey (9 March 1847 – 3 December 1888), styled as Viscount Reidhaven from 1884 to 1888, was a New Zealand farmer, labourer, and ephemeral Scottish peer. Early life Francis William Ogilvy-Grant was born at Ash Hill, Kilmallock, County Limerick in 1847, the eldest son of the Hon. James Ogilvy-Grant and his first wife, Caroline Louisa Evans, daughter of Eyre Evans, Esq. of Ash Hill, who died on 6 February 1850. After his education, he served as a midshipman in the Royal Navy and then joined the merchant navy. Career Francis ("Frank") Grant, as he was simply known then, arrived in New Zealand in 1870. He bought a farm in the Waiareka Valley in a locality known as Te Aneraki to the west of Oamaru in North Otago.
