Barker Road Methodist Church
Barker Road Methodist Church (BRMC) is a Methodist church in Singapore located at 48 Barker Road along Dunearn Road, and is colocated with Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) and Anglo-Chinese School (Primary). History BRMC was originally known as the Barker Road Chapel, and had its beginnings in 1956. It was later recognised as a Methodist church on 26 May 1957 with 12 registered members who were mainly Anglo-Chinese School boys. In 2023, membership of the Church stands at 3,150. BRMC is associated with the revival of Christian emphasis in the Anglo-Chinese School in the 1950s, and again in ACS Clock Tower Charismatic revival in 1972, when it hosted Anglo-Chinese School boys in the Church Sanctuary. Several participants in the revival later served as pastors in the Church. The Church was one of the founding members of the National Council of Churches of Singapore. Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road)
Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) is a government-aided boys' secondary school located at Barker Road in Newton, Singapore. It is a member of the Anglo-Chinese family of schools in Singapore. It offers the Singapore-Cambridge GCE Ordinary Level course for its students from Sec 1 to Sec 4/5. Students may then move on to Anglo-Chinese Junior College or Anglo-Chinese School (Independent). It has provided opportunities for its feeder students to continue with an ACS Education at a secondary level. ACS was also the first school in Singapore to have a flower named after it, the Ascocenda Anglo-Chinese School orchid, a hybrid created by the school to mark its 116th Founder's Day on 1 March 2002. This is a list of primary schools in Singapore. Children typically start their primary education in the year they turn seven. Primary education lasts six years, and is compulsory for all Singapore citizens. Primary schools in Singapore are classified as Government or Government-aided schools. Primary schools are typically mixed-sex, though there are a number of single-sex schools. Anglo-Chinese School (ACS) is a family of Methodist schools in Singapore and Indonesia. It was founded in 1886 by Bishop William Fitzjames Oldham as an extension of the Methodist Church. Anglo-Chinese School is usually abbreviated as "ACS", with Anglo-Chinese Junior College abbreviated as "ACJC". Its students and alumni are referred to as "ACSians" (). ACS was the first school in Singapore to have a flower named after it, the "Ascocenda Anglo-Chinese School orchid", a hybrid created by the school to mark its 116th Founder's Day on 1 March 2002. The National Council of Churches of Singapore (NCCS) is an ecumenical fellowship of Churches and Christian organisations in Singapore. This duty was initially carried out by the Malayan Christian Council which was then succeeded by the Council of Churches of Malaysia and Singapore. Following the expulsion of Singapore from Malaysia, a new, separate Council of Churches in Singapore was then constituted on 24 July 1974. It represents over 250 churches in Singapore. The current president of the NCCS is Keith Lai. The Council has been noted to be "socially conservative and theologically evangelical", embracing denominational and liturgical diversity. Wesley Methodist Church, Singapore
Wesley Methodist Church is the oldest Methodist church in Singapore. It is the second Methodist Church to be built in Singapore after the Methodist Episcopal Church at Coleman Street which subsequently became a school hall. It is located in Fort Canning Hill. History On 7 February 1885, William Fitzjames Oldham was appointed to head the Methodist Church in Singapore. He arrived with James Mills Thoburn and together they conducted a series of evangelistic rallies in the Town Hall (later the Victoria Memorial Hall) and Sunday evening worship services. The congregation was known as the English Church and met weekly in the Town Hall.
