Barbarella (band)
Barbarella was a Dutch all-female dance/pop trio from the Netherlands formed by Dutch manager/producer Han Meijer. The group consisted of singers Angela Vermeer, Ingrid Brans and Leslie Doornik. They released two albums in their short-lived career during 1989–1991 – ''Sucker For Your Love'' and ''Don't Stop The Dance''. They first came to prominence performing in the Dutch TV show, ''The Pin Up Club'', around 1988/1989, eventually recording and releasing what was to become its theme song, "We Cheer You Up (Join The Pin Up Club)", a cheerful uptempo pop song in the Euro disco vein of that time. The song quickly became a hit in the Top 10 in their native Netherlands and gathered some momentum and interest around the continent. Euro Disco
Eurodisco (also spelled as Euro disco) is the variety of European forms of electronic dance music that evolved from disco in the late 1970s, incorporating elements of pop and rock into a disco-like continuous dance atmosphere. Many Eurodisco compositions feature lyrics sung in English, although the singers often share a different mother tongue. Eurodisco derivatives generally include Europop and Eurodance, with the most prominent sub-genres being space disco of the late 1970s and Italo disco of the early 1980s. The genre declined in popularity after 1986 in preference to electronic rock and hi-NRG, with a small revival of Italo disco in at least the late 1990s. Lifestyle Satellite Jukebox was a British music video request television channel which was owned by the now defunct WHSTV (WHSmith). In 1990, the channel moved to transponder 5 (Lifestyle (British TV channel), Lifestyle/The Children's Channel) on the Astra satellite and shared transponder space with sister channel Lifestyle (British TV channel), Lifestyle. Cover Version
In popular music, a cover version, cover song, remake, revival, or simply cover, is a new performance or recording by a musician other than the original performer or composer of the song. Originally, it referred to a version of a song released around the same time as the original in order to compete with it. Now, it refers to any subsequent version performed after the original. Toto Coelo
Toto Coelo (renamed Total Coelo in the US) was a 1980s British new wave group, founded by producer Barry Blue. The original members were singers Anita Mahadevan, Lacey Bond, Lindsey Danvers, Ros Holness (daughter of television presenter Bob Holness) and Sheen Doran. Career Originally formed in 1981, one of the groups’ first recordings was "Videotheque", a Buggles number written and produced by Trevor Horn. The track became a hit for Dollar in 1982, while the Toto Coelo version remains unreleased. Another early track, "World of Automation", is also unreleased. The group is most known for the 1982 hit single, "I Eat Cannibals", which reached No. 8 in the UK Singles Chart and was a top 5 hit in Australia, South Africa, and Sweden. "I Eat Cannibals" also charted in the US, where it peaked at No. 66 in April 1983. A rave (from the verb: '' to rave'') is a dance party at a warehouse, club, or other public or private venue, typically featuring performances by DJs playing electronic dance music. The style is most associated with the early 1990s dance music scene when DJs played at illegal events in musical styles dominated by electronic dance music from a wide range of sub-genres, including techno, hardcore, house, and alternative dance. Contemporary Rhythm And Blues
Contemporary R&B (or simply R&B) is a popular music genre that combines rhythm and blues with elements of pop, soul, funk, hip hop, and electronic music. The genre features a distinctive record production style, drum machine-backed rhythms, pitch corrected vocals, and a smooth, lush style of vocal arrangement. Electronic influences are becoming an increasing trend and the use of hip hop or dance-inspired beats are typical, although the roughness and grit inherent in hip hop may be reduced and smoothed out.
