Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of the Americas, and the most easterly of the Caribbean Islands. It occupies an area of and has a population of about 287,000 (2019 estimate). Its capital and largest city is Bridgetown. 2011 World Aquatics Championships
The 14th FINA World Championships () were held on 16–31 July 2011 in Shanghai, China at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center. The 2011 World Championships featured five aquatics disciplines: swimming, water polo, diving, open water, and synchronized swimming. At this championships, synchronized swimmer Natalia Ishchenko, of Russia, was the most decorated competitor winning all six gold medals of her events, at solo, duet and team routines. These championships served as qualifying stages for the 2012 Summer Olympics. FINA announced Shanghai as the host on 24 March 2007, over other finalist Doha, Qatar. Bradley Ally
Bradley Kevin Ally (born December 11, 1986) is a three-time Olympic swimmer from Barbados. He represented Barbados at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. He was the bronze medalist in the 200-meter individual medley at the Pan-American Games in Brazil 2007. He holds the Barbadian Record in the butterfly and individual medley events, as well as the 200-meter freestyle. Ally was born in Barbados in 1986. Ally received an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where he swam for coach Gregg Troy's Florida Gators swimming and diving team in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competition from 2007 to 2010. Ally set an NCAA record in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1.40.49. He graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in geology in 2010. The men's 200 metre individual medley competition of the swimming events at the 2011 World Aquatics Championships took place July 27 and 28. The heats and semifinals took place July 27 and the final was held July 28. The two main contenders for the event were the reigning World Champion and world record holder Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps, the reigning Olympic champion. The final was won by Lochte in a world record time 1:54.00, bettering his previous time of 1:54.10. Phelps finished in second place with a personal best time of 1:54.16. So emphatic was Lochte and Phelps performance, that third-place finisher László Cseh said, "The Americans are too good for me.
