The Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) is the governing body for the sport of athletics in Barbados. History AAB was founded in 1947 as Amateur Athletic Association of Barbados (AAAB), and was affiliated to the IAAF in 1966. In 2012, the name was changed to Athletics Association of Barbados. Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of the Americas, and the most easterly of the Caribbean Islands. Ryan Brathwaite (born June 6, 1988) is a track and field athlete from Barbados who won the gold medal in the 110 metres hurdles at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics in Berlin. In recognition of his achievements, on September 17, 2009 Brathwaite was given the honour of being an ambassador while formally receiving the title Ambassador His Excellency Ryan Brathwaite. The event was won by Yohan Blake of Jamaica, who became the youngest ever world champion in the 100 metres at . 2011 World Championships In Athletics – Men's 110 Metres Hurdles
The Men's 110 metres hurdles at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Daegu Stadium on August 28 and 29. The final featured the three fastest 110 hurdlers in history. World Record Holder Dayron Robles took an early lead but was being passed by former record holder Liu Xiang. Between the last two hurdles, Robles' right arm backswing caught Liu's oncoming left arm. Liu hit the tenth hurdle, with a second arm collision with Robles, slowing Liu enough to finish in third. Robles crossed the finish line first, but after the race, the Chinese team protested and Robles was disqualified, giving the championship to second finisher Jason Richardson. Andy Turner was separated from David Oliver in a photo finish for the bronze medal, both receiving the same time. 5th place in the race was also so close the photo could not separate the two competitors.
