The Bangladesh Mohila Awami League is the women wing of Bangladesh Awami League. Meher Afroze Chumki is the president and Shabnam Jahan Shila is the general secretary of the league. The Mohila League has infrequent elections for local and national positions, and witnesses fractional conflicts. History The Bangladesh Mohila Awami League was established on 27 February 1969. Nurjahan Murshid was the first general secretary of Mohila Awami League, serving from 1969 to 1971, and would go on to become first health Minister of Bangladesh. On 12 July 2003, the Bangladesh Mohila Awami League held its council in which Ashrafunnesa Mosharraf, a former member of the Mukti Bahini, was elected president and Fazilatunnesa Indira was elected general secretary. Ivy Rahman
Ivy Rahman ( bn, আইভি রহমান;; 7 July 1934 – 24 August 2004) was a Bangladeshi politician. She was the Women's Affairs secretary of Awami League. She was killed in the 2004 Dhaka grenade attack. Career Rahman was the founding organizing secretary of Awami League's Women's wing, Mohila Awami League, established by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1969. She was elected Women Affairs Secretary of Awami League Central Working Committee in 1978 and 2 years later she became the President of Mohila Awami League. A. B. M. Mohiuddin Chowdhury (1 December 1944 – 15 December 2017) was a Bangladesh Awami League politician. He was the mayor of Chittagong, the second-largest city in Bangladesh, for three consecutive terms. Early life Chowdhury was born on 1 December 1944 in Gohira village, Raozan upazila, Chittagong District, East Bengal, British Raj. His father was Hosen Ahmed Chowdhury, a railway officer, and his mother was Bedowra Begum. After completing his SSC he joined Chittagong City College in 1962. Ataur Rahman Khan Kaiser (7 September 1940 – 9 October 2010) was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and member of the National Assembly of Pakistan. Bangladesh Shipping Corporation is a state-owned, autonomous corporation in Bangladesh. It owns a number of ships and oil tankers, and also charters sea-going vessels from other operators. The vessels are used to carry ready-made garments and other export items, and also to import crude oil from Saudi Arabia and UAE. 2004 Dhaka Grenade Attack
The 2004 Dhaka grenade attack took place at an anti-terrorism rally organised by Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue on 21 August 2004. The attack left 24 dead and more than 500 injured. The attack was carried out at 5:22 pm after Sheikh Hasina, the leader of opposition had finished addressing a crowd of 20,000 people from the back of a truck. The attacks targeted Awami League president Sheikh Hasina. Hasina was injured in the attack. Events and casualties Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina had been speaking at a public meeting on Bangabandhu Avenue, protesting blasts against the party's workers in Sylhet. The rally drew a crowd of 20,000 people. As Hasina finished her speech, a total of 13 grenades were thrown into the crowd from the rooftops of nearby buildings, killing at least 16 people on spot, later the death toll reached 24.
