Bangladesh Academy Of Sciences
Bangladesh Academy of Sciences is an academic forum for Bangladeshi scientists and technologists. Established in 1973, it aims to fulfill the role of promoting research and development of sciences in Bangladesh. History After the partition of Indian subcontinent, the Pakistan Academy of Sciences was established in 1953. After the liberation of Bangladesh, 12 Bangladeshi fellows (the then East Pakistani) of the academy formed the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences in 1973. Muhammad Qudrat-i-Khuda served the founding president role until 1976. Since 2014, BAS has administered the digital library Bangladesh Journals OnLine (BanglaJOL). Asiatic Society Of Bangladesh
The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh is a non political and non profit research organisation registered under both Society Act of 1864 and NGO Bureau, Government of Bangladesh. The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh was established as the Asiatic Society of East Pakistan in Dhaka in 1952 by a number of Muslim leaders, and renamed in 1972. Ahmed Hasan Dani, a noted Muslim historian and archaeologist of Pakistan played an important role in founding this society. He was assisted by Muhammad Shahidullah, a Bengali linguist. The society is housed in Nimtali, walking distance from the Curzon Hall of Dhaka University, locality of Old Dhaka. Mahmudur Rahman Choudhury
Mahmudur Rahman Choudhury (1 June 1928 – 24 June 1999) also known as Major General MR Choudhury, was a medical scientist and physician from Bangladesh who was the founder Commandant of Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and Transfusion (AFIP&T). The Government of Bangladesh awarded him the Independence Day Award, the highest civilian honor in the country, in 1977. AKM Aminul Haque
AKM Aminul Haque is a Bangladeshi marine biologist who served as the vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University for two terms during 1980–1988. In 2006, he was appointed as a National Professor by the Government of Bangladesh for five years. He is currently serving as the director of marine of the Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock. He is a former adviser, with the rank of minister, of Shahabuddin Ahmed caretaker government. Jamal Nazrul Islam
Jamal Nazrul Islam (24 February 1939 – 16 March 2013) was a Bangladeshi mathematical physicist and cosmologist. He was a professor at University of Chittagong, served as a member of the advisory board at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology and member of the syndicate at Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology until his death. He also served as the director of the Research Center for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (RCMPS) at the University of Chittagong. Kazi M Badruddoza
Kazi M Badruddoza (born 1 January 1927) is a National Emeritus Scientist working for the National Agricultural Research System of Bangladesh. Education and career He completed his B.Sc.Ag (Hons) from the University of Dhaka in 1952 and later received his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University. Among different posts, Badruddoza was director general for the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council. Abdul Matin Patwari (born January 1, 1935) is a Bangladeshi academic. He served as the 4th vice-chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. Mohammad Abdus Salam Salam adopted the forename "Mohammad" in 1974 in response to the anti-Ahmadiyya decrees in Pakistan, similarly he grew his beard. AKM Nurul Islam (27 October 1928 – 1 July 2006) was a Bangladeshi botanist and academician. He was selected as the National Professor of Bangladesh in 2006. He was a Fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences since 1980 and Bangladesh Botanical Society since 1997. Education Islam passed matriculation and intermediate science examinations from KD High School and Rajshahi Government College in 1945 and 1947 respectively. Ahmad Shamsul Islam (born August 6, 1924) is a Bangladeshi scientist and educator. He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1987 by the Government of Bangladesh for his contribution to education. He is serving as a Professor of the Department of Botany at the University of Dhaka. Fazlul Halim Chowdhury
Fazlul Halim Chowdhury (1 August 19309 April 1996) was a fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences and one of the longest-serving Vice-Chancellors of the University of Dhaka. He made pioneering contributions to the development of physical chemistry in Bangladesh, publishing more than 20 articles. Hiranmay Sen Gupta
Hiranmay Sen Gupta, bn, হিরন্ময় সেন গুপ্ত, (1 August 1934 – 8 January 2022) was a Bangladeshi physicist who specialised in nuclear physics. In a career spanning five decades he published over 200 research papers and was made a fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences in 1977. Biography Sen Gupta was born on 1 August 1934 in Barisal in the then Bengal Presidency of British India to Suruchi Bala and Jitendra Nath Sen Gupta. He obtained his Ph.D. in nuclear physics from the University of London in 1963, under the supervision of Joseph Rotblat. His doctoral thesis studied the scattering of Helium-3 particles.
