Banfield (village)
Banfield is a city in the district of Lomas de Zamora in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, south of the city center of Buenos Aires. It forms part of the Greater Buenos Aires metro area. History The area where the city is currently located, had its origin from the laying of the railroad tracks. In principle, this allowed communication between Chascomús and the city of Buenos Aires, which at that time was the provincial capital. The yellow fever epidemic that occurred in 1871 diversified the location of the population, mainly in the suburbs, as well as in the sectors near the capital, until then little chosen. Juan de Zamora sold his property to the Colegio de Nuestra Señora de Belén in 1765, but in 1767 the Jesuit order of Río de la Plata was expelled and dissolved. Greater Buenos Aires ( es, Gran Buenos Aires, GBA), also known as the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area ( es, Área Metropolitana de Buenos Aires, AMBA), refers to the urban agglomeration comprising the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and the adjacent 24 '' partidos'' (districts) in the Province of Buenos Aires. Club Atlético Banfield is an Argentine sports club based in the Banfield district of Greater Buenos Aires. It was founded on 21 January 1896, by the British–origin inhabitants of that city (mostly English, and some Scots and Irish). The club is mostly known for its football teams, that currently competes in Primera División, the top division of the Argentine football league system. In 2009 Banfield obtained their first Primera División title after winning the 2009 Apertura. Alberto Evaristo Ginastera (; April 11, 1916June 25, 1983) was an Argentinian composer of classical music. He is considered to be one of the most important 20th-century classical composers of the Americas. Biography Ginastera was born in Buenos Aires to a Spanish father and an Italian mother. Lomas (Spanish for "hills"), also called fog oases and mist oases, are areas of fog-watered vegetation in the coastal desert of Peru and northern Chile. About 100 lomas near the Pacific Ocean are identified between 5°S and 30°S latitude, a north–south distance of about . Lomas range in size from a small vegetated area to more than and their flora includes many endemic species. Apart from river valleys and the lomas the coastal desert is almost without vegetation. Scholars have described individual lomas as "an island of vegetation in a virtual ocean of desert." Temperley is a district in Greater Buenos Aires, Argentina, located in the south of Lomas de Zamora Partido. History In 1854 the industrial and textile merchant George Temperley (born in 1823 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England) bought from the Marenco brothers 51 hectares between the present streets of Dorrego, Almirante Brown, Eva Perón and Lavalle, and built a country house there. On October 16, 1870, Temperley set aside land from his extensive property for the establishment of a community, and participated in the building of both the original Lomas de Zamora City Hall and the Temperley railway station, one of the largest in Greater Buenos Aires.
