Banerji Road
Banerji Road is one of the major arteries of downtown Kochi, in the Kerala, state of Kerala, India. It lies east-west between the ''High-Court Junction'' (Marine Drive, Kochi, Marine Drive) in the west, and Ernakulam North in the east. It passed through North Overbridge near Ernakulam Town, Ernakulam North railway station. It is named after Albion Rajkumar Banerji, Sir A. R. Banerji, former diwan of the Kingdom of Cochin. Most of the parts of the road are four lane with some areas still under 2 lane and works to make 4 lane under construction. kacherippady Junction and Madhava Pharmacy Junction (Mahatma Gandhi Road, Kochi, MG Road) are main junctions on this road. Kochi
Kochi (), also known as Cochin ( ) ( the official name until 1996) is a major port city on the Malabar Coast of India bordering the Laccadive Sea, which is a part of the Arabian Sea. Marine Drive, Kochi
Marine Drive is a picturesque promenade in Kochi, India. It is built facing the backwaters, and is a popular hangout for the local populace. Despite its name, no vehicles are allowed on the walkway. Marine Drive is also an economically thriving part of the city of Kochi. With several shopping malls it is as an important centre of shopping activity in Kochi. Major fast food joints, including Marrybrown, DiMark, Coffee Bar are present along the walkway. The view of the setting and rising sun over the sea mouth, and the gentle breeze from the Vembanad Lake has made Marine Drive an important tourist destination in Kochi. Hundreds of people (both natives, and tourists) throng the walkway during the evenings. The walkway starts from the High Court Junction and continues until the Rajendra Maidan. Albion Rajkumar Banerji
Sir Albion Rajkumar Banerjee (10 October 1871 – 25 February 1950) was an Indian civil servant and administrator who served as the Diwan of Cochin from 1907 to 1914, 21st Diwan of Mysore from 1922 to 1926, and as Prime Minister of Kashmir from 1927 to 1929. Early life and education Albion Rajkumar Banerjee was born in a Bengali Brahmo family in Bristol on 10 October 1871 to Sasipada Banerji, His father was a noted social reformer and labour activist from Baranagar near Calcutta, and Rajkumari Banerji. He studied at the General Assembly's Institution and graduated from the University of Calcutta. Subsequently he earned his master's degree at the Balliol College, Oxford. He married Nalini Gupta, daughter of Sir Krishna Govinda Gupta, the 7th Indian to join the ICS, who, towards the end of his distinguished career in the civil service, went to the Secretary of State's Council in London. Kingdom Of Cochin
The Kingdom of Cochin, named after its capital in the city of Kochi (Cochin), was a kingdom in the central part of present-day Kerala state. It commenced at the early part of the 12th century and continued to rule until 1949, when monarchy was abolished by the dominion of India. Historically, the capital of Cochin was in Kodungallur (Cranganore), but in 1341 the capital was moved to Cochin inorder to remedy a disastrous flood. By the early 15th century, Cochin lost its ability to fully defend itself. By the late 15th century, the Cochin kingdom shrank to its minimal extent as a result of invasions by the Zamorin of Calicut. When Portuguese armadas arrived in India, the Kingdom of Cochin had lost its vassals to the Zamorins, including Edapalli and Cranganore, the later of which had even been at the centre of the kingdom historically. Mahatma Gandhi Road, Kochi
Mahatma Gandhi Road, popularly known as M. G. Road, is the main artery as well as the commercial high street of the city of Kochi, in the state of Kerala, India. The road lies north-south with its boundaries at the ''Venduruthy bridge'', Thevara in the south, and the ''Madhava Pharmacy Junction'' in the north, where it intersects the Banerji Road. The road was earlier part of the '' NH 47A'' (Old Highway) and was later handed over to Kochi Municipal Corporation. The highway was earlier known as ''Seventy Feet road''.
