Bandera Falls is an unincorporated community in Bandera County, Texas, United States. It is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Bandera Falls started as a residential community in 1966 and had 10 houses. By 1990, it was listed as a community, but without census figures. The population was estimated to be 90 in 2009. Geography Bandera Creek is a residential subdivision, located several miles (one dozen km) south of Bandera and approximately southwest of Pipe Creek on Farm to Market Road 1283 in eastern Bandera County. It lies along the left bank of the Medina River, just north of its outlet into Medina Lake, one of the largest bodies of water in South Texas. Pipe Creek, Texas
Pipe Creek is an unincorporated community in Bandera County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, it had a population of approximately 66 in 1990. It is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area. History A post office called Pipe Creek has been in operation since 1873. The community was named from Pipe Creek and was founded around 1870. Francis Marion Hodges was the first settler in the community in 1868. Oliver S. Shirley then settled two years later. Seventy more families moved to the area during the first decade of the town's development. Surnames of local settlers included Scott, Anderson, Newcomer, Vawter, and Morgenstern. A.M. Beekman was the first postmaster in the community. Its post office's name was changed to Pipecreek for a small amount of time in 1895. Stolen And Missing Moon Rocks
Of the 270 Apollo 11 Moon rocks and the Apollo 17 Goodwill Moon Rocks that were given to the nations of the world by the Nixon Administration, approximately 180 are unaccounted for. Many of these rocks that are accounted for have been locked away in storage for decades. The location of the rocks has been tracked by researchers and hobbyists because of their rarity and the difficulty of obtaining more. Moon rocks have been subjects of theft and forgery as well. Investigations In 1998, a unique federal law enforcement undercover operation was created to identify and arrest individuals selling bogus Moon rocks. Medina Lake
Medina Lake is a reservoir on the Medina River in the Texas Hill Country of the United States. It is operated by the Bexar/Medina/Atascosa County Agricultural District. Medina Dam was completed in 1913 in a privately financed project, creating the lake to supply irrigation water for local agricultural use. Lake Medina is in northeastern Medina County, and southeastern Bandera County, about 40 miles (64 km) northwest of San Antonio. It is a crescent-shaped reservoir running west to east. It is 18 miles (29 km) long and 3 miles (5 km) wide at its broadest point. It is contained by the Medina Dam at the lake's south end. At the time of the dam's construction, it was the largest concrete dam in the country and the fourth largest dam overall. The dam is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Medina River
The Medina River is located in south central Texas, United States, in the Medina Valley. It was also known as the Rio Mariano, Rio San Jose, or Rio de Bagres (Catfish river). Its source is in springs in the Edwards Plateau in northwest Bandera County, Texas and merges with the San Antonio River in southern Bexar County, Texas, for a course of 120 miles. Bandera, Texas
Bandera (Spanish: "flag", ) is the county seat of Bandera County, Texas, United States, in the Texas Hill Country, which is part of the Edwards Plateau. The population was 857 at the 2010 census. Bandera calls itself the " Cowboy Capital of the World". History A visitor to Bandera can see a sign on Main Street in front of the fire department that states that Bandera was founded by Polish Roman Catholic immigrants from Upper Silesia.
