Banda Blanca
Banda Blanca is a Honduran musical group formed in 1971. They began as a rock band but eventually integrated elements of Merengue music, merengue and punta rock into their music. The group rose to fame in 1990, when their song "Sopa de Caracol" became an international success, peaking at number one on the Top Latin Songs, ''Billboard'' Top Latin Songs in the United States. Their songs "Fiesta" and "Swing Latino" also reached the American charts. Their album ''Baila Blanca'' became a number-one hit on the Tropical Albums chart. Honduras
Honduras, officially the Republic of Honduras, is a country in Central America. Punta rock, or Belizean punta, is a form of Garifuna music originating in Belize and created by Pen Cayetano. Songs are usually sung in Belizean Kriol or Garifuna and rarely in Spanish or English. Many Garifuna American singers perform the genre as well. Origins Punta rock is a subgenre of punta that was created by Pen Cayetano in Belize in 1978. Punta is a style of traditional music and dance that developed among the Garifuna people of Saint Vincent, Honduras, Belize, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. While this style is unique, calypso and soca have had some influence on it. Like calypso and soca, punta rock was used for both social commentary and risqué humor, though the initial wave of punta acts eschewed the former. Capitol Latin (formerly EMI Latin) is a brand of Universal Music Latin Entertainment, a division of Universal Music Group. Previously, it was a subsidiary of EMI. Rodven Records was a Venezuelan record label that belonged to the Cisneros family owned Grupo Cisneros, ODC Group, then proprietors of one of the largest TV networks in the country, Venevision. Merengue Music
Merengue is a type of music and dance originating in the Dominican Republic, which has become a very popular genre throughout Latin America, and also in several major cities in the United States with Latino communities. Merengue was inscribed on November 30, 2016 in the representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO. Merengue was developed in the middle of the 1800s, originally played with European stringed instruments ( bandurria and guitar). Years later, the stringed instruments were replaced by the accordion, thus conforming, together with the güira and the tambora, the instrumental structure of the typical merengue ensemble. "Sopa de Caracol" ("Snail Soup") is a song performed by the Honduran punta rock band Banda Blanca. It was originally written by Belizean singer Hernan "Chico" Ramos and translated to Spanish by Banda Blanca.
