Banani (neighbourhood)
Banani is a residential and commercial neighbourhood and a thana of Dhaka, often considered a part of the neighbouring Gulshan area. It hosts five-star hotels, upscale restaurants, classy malls, luxury apartments, established and well-known private English-medium and international schools, and headquarters of various banks and domestic and multinational companies. Banani is considered an important central business district. Its business scene holds increasing importance compared to areas like Mohakhali, Bashundhara, Uttara, Kawran Bazar, Tejgaon and Mirpur. 2011 Census Of Bangladesh
In 2011, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, conducted a national census in Bangladesh, which provided a provisional estimate of the total population of the country as 142,319,000. The previous decennial census was the 2001 census. Data were recorded from all of the districts and upazilas and main cities in Bangladesh including statistical data on population size, households, sex and age distribution, marital status, economically active population, literacy and educational attainment, religion, number of children etc. Bangladesh and India also conducted their first joint census of areas along their border in 2011. According to the census, Hindus constituted 8.5 per cent of the population as of 2011, down from 9.6 per cent in the 2001 census. Bangladesh have a population of 144,043,697 as per 2011 census report. Majority of 130,201,097 reported that they were Muslims, 12,301,331 reported as Hindus, 864,262 as Buddhists, 532,961 as Christians and 201,661 as others. See also * ... FR Tower Fire
On 28 March 2019, the FR Tower Fire broke out on the eighth floor of the 22-storey FR Tower in the commercial Banani area of Dhaka, Bangladesh around 1:00 pm BST. It caused 25 deaths and more than 70 others were injured. Duronto TV and Radio Today shut down their transmissions when the fire broke out because both of their offices were situated beside the FR tower. Casualties As of 28 March, the death toll was estimated to be at least 26. Among the dead was a Sri Lankan citizen who fell to his death while escaping the fire. In addition, at least 70 people were injured and transported to hospitals with severe burns and lung damage. Abdul Monem Khan
Abdul Monem Khan (28 July 1899 – 13 October 1971) was a Pakistani politician who was the longest serving governor of East Pakistan during 1962–1969. Early life and education Khan was born in Humayunpur village of Bajitpur Upazila, Kishoreganj to Kamar Ali Khan and Nasima Khatun. He studied in Mymensingh Zilla School graduating in 1916. He went on to Dhaka College and earned his bachelor of law degree from University of Calcutta in 1922. He got another law degree from the University of Dhaka in 1924.
