''Baltic Tango'' (russian: Холодное танго, Holodnoe Tango) is a Russian military-historical drama film from 2017 directed and written by Pavel Chukhray, based on the novel "Sell your mother" by Efraim Sevela. ''Baltic Tango'' is the first work of Pavel Chukhray after a ten — year break. The film stars Yulia Peresild, Rinal Mukhametov, Sergei Garmash. The film was released on June 22, 2017, on The Day of Remembrance and Sorrow (the 76th anniversary of the beginning of the Second World War) Plot The film begins in the German occupation Lithuania in the 1941. Max is a boy from Jewish ghetto, his mother and younger sister were murdered by the Nazis at the beginning of the war. Pavel Grigoryevich Chukhray (russian: Па́вел Григо́рьевич Чухра́й; Bykovo, Moscow Oblast, October 14, 1946) is a Soviet and Russian film director and screenwriter. He is the son of the prominent Russian film director Grigory Chukhray. He is best known for his film '' The Thief'' (1997), which was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film 1">/sup>1/sup> and won the Nika Award for Best Picture and Best Directing. Efim Drabkin ( rus, Ефим Евелевич Драбкин), better known by his pen name Efraim Sevela (russian: link=no, Эфраим Севела, he, link=no, אפרים סבלה) (8 March 1928, Babruysk, Belarus18 August 2010) was a Soviet writer, screenwriter, director, producer, who after his emigration from the Soviet Union lived in Israel, USA and Russia. Efraim Sevela was born to Jewish parents. His father was an officer. During World War 2, him and his family were evacuated from the frontline in 1941. After finishing school Sevela was admitted into the Belarusian State University and became a screenwriter for many Soviet patriotic films. At the end of the 1960s, Sevela joined the Jewish Soviet dissidents and took part in the capture of the main office of the head of the Soviet government in 1971. Sevela was expatriated to Israel.
