Baltanás
Baltanás is a municipality located in the province of Palencia, Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2021 census (INE), the municipality had a population of 1,219 inhabitants. Etymology The name Baltanás is derived from the evolution of Valle de Atanasio (Atanasio Valley). During the reign of Alfonso VII, in the year 1135, it was commonly named "Valle de Valtanás". In the year 1145 the word "valley" disappeared. Later, over time, the initial "V" was replaced by a "B", becoming the current toponym, "Baltanás". History The population was of approximately 3000 inhabitants before the Spanish Civil War, and was reduced considerably during that period. Unemployment and lack of food made numbers dwindle even further during the 1950s. In 2005, bodies from fallen Civil War soldiers were recovered in the area known as "El Portillo". Valdecañas De Cerrato
Valdecañas de Cerrato is a town and a district in the municipality of Baltanás. It is located 9 km from Baltanás in the Comarcas of Spain, comarca of El Cerrato (Palencia), in the autonomous communities of Spain, autonomous community of Castile and León (Spain), and belongs to the jurisdiction of Palencia. Geography Valdecañas de Cerrato's geography is dotted with hills surrounded by moors and the population is settled at the foot of the Piyayo peak or the Roble peak, also called "Carrascal hill" in a valley along which the Castillo, Pozo, Valle and Pozuelo streams flow. These meet at the cemetery and supply water to the Cañocaliente, Aguanal, Matilla, Águila, Mojapán, Piedra, Burros and Carropalenzuela springs that flow into the Pisuerga river, which disappear before reaching their outlets. El Cerrato
El Cerrato is a natural Comarcas of Castile and León, comarca in Spain comprising locations in the provinces of Palencia (province), Palencia, Burgos (province), Burgos and Valladolid (province), Valladolid, although the largest part lies within Palencia. With an area of 1,534 km2, almost 25,000 inhabitants and an average elevation of 783 meters above sea level, the region contains 37 villages and the city of Dueñas, Palencia, Dueñas. Its capitals throughout history have been Castroverde de Cerrato, Palenzuela and, from the late fifteenth century, Baltanás, the largest municipality.
