Ballingarry, County Limerick
Ballingarry () is a village in County Limerick, Ireland. It lies between Rathkeale and Kilmallock on the R518 road. The population was 521 at the 2016 census. Ballingarry had a vital weaving and linen industry until the Great Famine in 1845. Canon Edward Joseph Hannan, one of the founders of Scottish football club Hibernian, was born in Ballingarry in 1836. Ballingarry has a long tradition with hurling. The local association football (soccer) team is Ballingarry A.F.C. The local junior soccer team won the Desmond League Premier Division in 2003/2004 and the following year the Granagh-Ballingarry GAA club won the county Intermediate Hurling Championship to achieve Senior status for the first time since 1910. Edward Joseph Hannan
Canon Edward Joseph Hannan (Irish: ''Éamonn Seosamh Ó hAnnáin'') (1836–1891) was an Irish-born priest, mainly remembered as the founder of Hibernian Football Club in Edinburgh. Life He was born in Ballingarry, County Limerick on 21 June 1836. Hannon went to the minor seminary of St Munchin's College, Limerick, in 1853, before moving to All Hallows College, Dublin, in 1855, where he complete his studies and was ordained as a priest in 1860. He remained in All Hallows for a year before, going to Edinburgh in 1861 on holiday and was persuaded to stay by the bishop to run the recently re-inaugurated St Patricks. During his long period in Edinburgh he did much to address the social problems of the poorer Catholics in the city, and founded a local branch of the ''Catholic Young Mens Society (CYMS)'' in 1865, which had been founded in Ireland by his uncle, Monsignor Richard B. Hibernian Football Club (), commonly known as Hibs, is a professional football club based in the Leith area of Edinburgh, Scotland. Anthony Forde (footballer)
Anthony Michael Forde (born 16 November 1993) is an Irish professional footballer who plays for club Wrexham. He has represented the Republic of Ireland at numerous youth levels. Career Wolves Forde moved to Wolves in summer 2009 to become part of their academy group. He made his senior debut on 23 August 2011 as a substitute in a League Cup tie against Northampton Town, and his Premier League debut on 26 November 2011 at Chelsea. He made six appearances in the top flight as the club suffered relegation. Granagh-Ballingarry GAA ( ga, Greanach-Baile an Gharraí) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in west Limerick, Ireland, within the jurisdiction of Limerick GAA. The club is situated near Knockfierna Hill. Granagh-Ballingarry GAA was formed in 1990 after the merger between Granagh and Ballingarry GAA clubs. Previously, the clubs had been playing together in some competitions. Hurling Hurling is the more popular game in the parish. Granagh-Ballingarry are currently (2021) in the Intermediate grade. Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology.
