Ballina Stephenites GAA
Ballina Stephenites is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Ballina, County Mayo, Ballina area in County Mayo, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. They are the most successful club in Mayo and fourth most successful in Ireland based on trophy amount. History The Ballina Stephenites Club was founded on the 28th (last Saturday) of August 1886 by James Wallace Melvin. (Pen-name Larry Doolan) who also penned the Club's rallying song-"Forward to the goal of victory" The first meeting was held in "Barney's Boreen" at the top of Convent Hill. The first President of the Club was Tom Courell with "Cappy" Fitzgerald as Secretary and Michael Connolly as Treasurer. The club is named for James Stephens (Fenian), James Stephens (1825–1901). Ballina Stephenites were affiliated to the Mayo County Board a short time later and played their first "official" fixture in Jones' Field in Ardnaree against Commercials Junior. David Brady
David Brady (born 1974) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for the Mayo county team in midfield in the 1990s and 2000s. As of 2020, he works as a journalist. Early life Brady grew up in Ballina, County Mayo; his mother was from Mayo and his father from Castleconor, County Sligo. He has twin younger brothers, Ger Brady and Liam Brady. Playing career Brady played in midfield for Ballina Stephenites and Mayo. In 1994 and 1995 he was on the under-21 teams that lost the All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship final. Brady was on the Mayo team that lost the 1996 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final; he missed the 1997 final due to a broken leg. Kevin McStay
Kevin McStay (born 9 May 1962) is an Irish Gaelic football manager, commentator, analyst and former player. He has been manager of the senior Mayo county team since 2022. McStay was educated at St Jarlath's College in Tuam during the 1970s, playing for the school team. In retirement from playing McStay became an analyst with ''The Sunday Game''; however, he remained involved as a manager and coach. Ger Cafferkey (born 5 August 1987) is a former Gaelic footballer who plays for Ballina Stephenites and the Mayo county team. Playing career Cafferkey studied at NUI Galway. While there he played for the university team. Cafferkey played in the 2006 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship final loss to Down. He won three Connacht Under-21 Football Championships between 2006 and 2008. He also won an All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship in 2006, while playing at full back. He first played senior championship for his county in 2009 against New York. His first of six Connacht Senior Championship medals followed in his first season. David Clarke (born 27 November 1983) is a Gaelic footballer who plays for Ballina Stephenites GAA, Ballina Stephenites. He also played for the Mayo county football team, Mayo county team until his retirement in 2021. He played in the 2006 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final, 2006 All-Ireland Final defeat to Kerry GAA, Kerry and the 2012 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final, 2012 All-Ireland final which Mayo lost by 0-13 to 2-11 against Donegal GAA, Donegal.
