Baljunso (; stylized in all caps) is a South Korean indie label founded in 1991 by Kang Byung-yong, former director of CAN Entertainment. Baljunso was acquired by SM Entertainment in 2014. History Baljunso, an indie label, was established in 1991 by Kang Byung-yong, the former CEO of Can Entertainment, who discovered many artists such as Kim Jong-seo, Jang Hye-jin, Park Sang-min, and Can. Kang stated that the establishment of the record label is to revive hip-hop and band music associated with non-mainstream music genres rather than the idol music form that has been the foundation of influential K-pop. SM Entertainment invested in the label to emphasize the variety of K-pop and globalize the industry. Play The Siren
''Play the Siren'' (, also stylized as ''PLAY THE SIREN'') was a South Korean hip-hop group that debuted in 2014 with the single "Dream Drive". History Pre-debut Play the Siren as a hip-hop crew brought the genre of urban music to Korea by combining electronic music and hardcore rap. They made a mix tape on Baljunso's official Youtube channel and one of the members, Kasper as a solo artist did the same thing on her Youtube channel. 2014: Debut with ''Dream Drive'' and "Cypher" SM Entertainment acquired Baljunso in 2014. Korean indie, referring to independent music in South Korea, developed in the 1990s in Hongdae, an area of Northwestern Seoul. Urban contemporary music, also known as urban music, hip hop, urban pop, or just simply urban, is a music radio format. The term was coined by New York radio DJ Frankie Crocker in the early to mid-1970s as a synonym for Black music.
