Bajčići ( it, Baicici) is a village in the island of Krk, in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Croatia. Mate Bajčić Gašpović, who was from here, was the last speaker of the Istro-Romanian language in Krk. He died in 1875. The counties of Croatia ( hr, hrvatske županije) are the primary administrative subdivisions of the Republic of Croatia. Krk (town)
Krk ( it, Veglia) is the main settlement of the island of Krk, Croatia. Characteristics It is located on the southwest coast of the island and is the historical seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Krk. The city is ancient, being among the oldest in the Adriatic Sea. It has been continuously inhabited since ancient times including the Illyrians and later the Romans, and was once part of the Byzantine '' Theme Dalmatia'' after the Western Roman Empire had fallen to the barbarians. Istro-Romanian Language
The Istro-Romanian language ( ruo, rumârește, vlășește) is a Balkan Romance language, spoken in a few villages and hamlets in the peninsula of Istria in Croatia, as well as in the diaspora of this people. It is sometimes abbreviated to IR. While its speakers call themselves ''Rumeri'', ''Rumeni'', they are also known as ''Vlachs'', ''Rumunski'', ''Ćići'' and ''Ćiribiri''. The last one, used by ethnic Croats, originated as a disparaging nickname for the language, rather than its speakers.
