Baisha Bay
The Baisha Bay () is a beach along the North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area in Shimen District, New Taipei, Taiwan. History The bay area originated around 800,000 years ago where the rocky promontories were created as the result of volcanic activity from the Tatun Volcano Group that sent lava flowing directly into the sea. The beach was called Kamakura during Taiwan under Japanese rule, Japanese rule for its scenic beauty that highly resembles scenery in Kamakura. Geography The bay encompasses a half-moon shape beach for around 1 km length long. Due to its location close to the most northwestern point of Taiwan Island, the area is very windy. During the low tide, the beach area becomes very large, sometimes over 200 meters deep with shallow tide pool and many sand bars. Shimen District
Shimen District (), also known as Sekimon, is a sparsely populated rural District (Taiwan), district in the northern part of New Taipei City in northern Taiwan. It is part of the North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area and includes Taiwan's northernmost point, Cape Fugui. History While known to earlier explorers, including the Dutch, the area was first explicitly mentioned in Chinese annals in 1694 as ''Shimenshan'' (). North Coast And Guanyinshan National Scenic Area
The North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area () (abbreviated as North Guan) is a national scenic area in Taiwan. When the scenic area was first established on October 17, 2002, it covered a total area of and was mainly composed of the north coast of Taiwan, Yehliu and Mount Guanyin. It encompasses two separate sections of New Taipei City. The larger part consists of the seashore, part of the ocean, and a strip of land either side of Cape Fugui, the northernmost point of Taiwan. The smaller part of the Scenic Area is centred on the -high Mount Guanyin. The north coast area is between Wanli District and the boundary between Sanzhi District and Tamsui. Tatun Volcano Group
Tatun Volcanoes (), a group of volcanoes located in northern Taiwan, is located 15 km north of Taipei, and lies to the west of Keelung. It just adjoins the northern coast of the Taiwan island. The volcano group was a result of episodic volcanism between 2.8 and 0.2 Ma. As of 2005, some geothermal activity was occurring and gas fumaroles were active among these volcanoes. Observations on Tatun Volcano Group suggest that magma chambers probably still exist under the land surface of northern Taiwan. Taiwan Under Japanese Rule
The island of Taiwan, together with the Penghu Islands, became a dependency of Japan in 1895, when the Qing dynasty ceded Fujian-Taiwan Province in the Treaty of Shimonoseki after the Japanese victory in the First Sino-Japanese War.
