Baekje Military Museum
Baekje Military Museum is a public museum in Nonsan, South Korea elucidating the military history of the later Baekje kingdom. The museum includes artifacts, reconstructed weapons and armor, dioramas, and a reconstructed defense wall. It opened in 2002. Nonsan
Nonsan () is a city in South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. It is located at . The origin of Nonsan's geographical names is said to have come from the small garden " Nolmoe, " which rises in the middle of farming fields, where rice paddies and mountain are said to reflect geographical features. The city belongs to the Daejeon Metropolitan Area. History Nonsan has a significant history. During the Samhan period, Nonsan is believed to have been part of Mahan territory. In the Baekje period, the district belonged to Hwangdeungyasan-gun. The crucial battle in which Silla defeated Baekje is thought to have taken place in the general area of Nonsan. Later, in the Silla period, Nonsan was divided into two different towns: Deogeun and Hwangsan. The train station was built in 1911, in the same year as the rail line through the Nonsan plain was completed. Baekje
Baekje or Paekche (, ) was a Korean kingdom located in southwestern Korea from 18 BC to 660 AD. It was one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, together with Goguryeo and Silla. Baekje was founded by Onjo, the third son of Goguryeo's founder Jumong and So Seo-no, at Wiryeseong (present-day southern Seoul). Baekje, like Goguryeo, claimed to succeed Buyeo, a state established in present-day Manchuria around the time of Gojoseon's fall. Baekje alternately battled and allied with Goguryeo and Silla as the three kingdoms expanded control over the peninsula. At its peak in the 4th century, Baekje controlled most of the western Korean peninsula, as far north as Pyongyang, and may have even held territories in China, such as in Liaoxi, though this view is controversial. Tapjeong Reservoir
Tapjeong Reservoir (; also ) is a reservoir that has been classified as the second great scenic location in Nonsan, South Korea by the municipality. It is located in Mujeok-myeon, Gayagok-myeon, and Yangchon-myeon in Nonsan City, outside of the city proper. Freshwater fish such as carp, mandarin, and catfish are in the body of water. Other significant fauna include cockscomb pearl mussels and golden and red-bellied frogs. The water is used in part for irrigation of down-stream farms. The dam was recently re-built. There are a number of hotels and restaurants along the circumferential road where it is near the dam. Swimming is prohibited, though fishing is permitted and boating, including water-skiing, is seen on the lake. History The reservoir was constructed during the years 1941-1944.
