Badush
Badush or Badosh ( ar, بَادُوش, Bādūš) is a village in northern Iraq within the Nineveh Governorate, located northwest of Mosul. Region There are some important facilities in the surrounding area: * Badush Dam which is being built on the Tigris River, located north of the village. * Badush cement plant, located to the northeast. In 2017 the cement plant has been the site of some fighting during the Battle of Mosul, as Iraqi forces clashed with ISIL. Lt. Col. Ali Jassem of the 9th Armoured Division stated that Iraqi forces had raided and entered the Badush cement plant to where some ISIL fighters had retreated to. The cement factory had previously been damaged by fire and looting by ISIL forces. The factory was the first cement plant in Iraq, established in 1955. Badush Dam
The Badush Dam is an unfinished multi-purpose dam on the Tigris River, located near Badush, northwest of Mosul in the Ninawa Governorate, northern Iraq. If completed, the dam's designed main purpose is to provide protection from a failure of the unstable Mosul Dam upstream. In addition, the hydroelectric power station would have an installed capacity of 170 MW and the dam would further regulate tailwaters from Mosul Dam. History In response to concerns over Mosul Dam's karst foundation, Iraqi's Ministry of Irrigation began construction in 1988. Works on the dam ended in 1991 due to economic sanctions against Iraq. Other problems troubled construction as well, particularly lethal gas exhalation. Significant construction on the dam along with the hydro-power unit housing had occurred. Badush Prison Massacre
On 10 June 2014, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) killed at least 670 Shia prisoners in an attack on Badush prison. ISIL first separated out the Sunni inmates before executing the remaining prisoners. The Tigris () is the easternmost of the two great rivers that define Mesopotamia, the other being the Euphrates. The river flows south from the mountains of the Armenian Highlands through the Syrian and Arabian Deserts, and empties into the Persian Gulf.
