Badstuegade 1H is a house and a listed building in Aarhus, Denmark. The house was built in 1809 and was listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places by the Danish Heritage Agency on 7 October 1970. The house is situated in the historic and central Latin Quarter neighbourhood on ''Badstuegade'' by ''Pustervig'' square. History The house was built by the merchant Harboe Meulengracht in 1809 as a warehouse to store imported products and it is one of the only remaining warehouses facing a street. In 1816, he built an adjacent villa facing Lille Torv and the two buildings forms a courtyard. The warehouse was listed in 1970 and carefully renovated in 1977 and the courtyard-facade was restored to its original appearance. In 1998, the building was sold by Aarhus Municipality to the company ''Skumhuset'' (The Foam-house) operating a workshop specializing in foam and upholstery for furniture. Latin Quarter, Aarhus
Latinerkvarteret (lit.: ''The Latin Quarter'') in Aarhus, is the oldest part of the city and is itself part of the inner city. The quarter comprise the streets of Badstuegade, Klostergade, Volden, Studsgade, Borggade, Rosensgade, Mejlgade and Graven, with Pustervig Torv as the main square. The name Latinerkvarteret was officially adopted in the 1990s and reflects the areas similarities with the Latin Quarter of Paris by Rive Gauche. Some of the oldest houses date back to the 16th century. Latinerkvarteret is a busy center for shopping, there are many cafés and restaurants here and it has an active night life. Harboe Meulengracht
Harboe Galthen Meulengracht (10 February 1767 – 27 May 1853) was a Danish merchant and shipowner in Denmark who was appointed to the Danish Supreme Court and was purveyor to the royal household. Biography Meulengracht was born in Aarhus to Lars Christian Meulengracht and Marie Madsdatter Brøchner Galthen. He had two brothers, Mads Galthen Meulengracht and NN Meulengracht. He grew up in the Aarhus Mill, located at Vester Allé where Mølleparken is placed nowadays, which was owned by his parents. In 1769, when Harboe was 2 years old, his father committed suicide by drowning himself in the mill pond due to economic problems. Haboe worked as a trader in the ironmongery business, partnering with skipper Peder Larsen. In 1792, he married Maren Jensdatter Schmidt, a daughter of a local merchant, and in 1794 Peder Larsen married the sister to Meulengracht's wife, Dorothea Sophie Schmidt (1776-1850). Lille Torv
Lille Torv ( lit. Little Square) is a cobbled public square located in the Indre By neighborhood in Aarhus, Denmark. It is situated between the squares of Store Torv and Immervad in the historic Latin Quarter neighborhood and it is one of the oldest public squares in Aarhus. The streets of Vestergade, ''Guldsmedgade'', ''Immervad'' and ''Badstuegade'' radiates from Lille Torv. It is today a venue for public events and gatherings in the city. Aarhus Municipality ( da, Aarhus Kommune), known as Århus Municipality ( da, Århus Kommune) until 2011, is a municipality in Central Denmark Region, on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. Risskov is the name of both a neighbourhood and a district in the city of Aarhus, Denmark. The district of Risskov is sometimes referred to as Vejlby-Risskov, as it is a merger of the neighbourhood of Risskov and the neighbourhood of Vejlby.
