Badminton At The 2018 Asian Para Games
Badminton tournament at the 2018 Asian Para Games was held at Istora Gelora Bung Karno, Jakarta, Indonesia from 6 to 13 October. The badminton programme in 2018 included men's and women's singles competitions; men's, women's and mixed doubles competitions alongside men's team events. Classification The players were classified to six different classes as per determined by Badminton World Federation. Istora Gelora Bung Karno
Gelora Bung Karno Sports Palace ( id, Istana Olahraga Gelora Bung Karno, abbreviated as ''Istora''), the formerly name ''Istora Senayan'' is an indoor sporting arena located in Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex, Jakarta, Indonesia. The capacity of the arena after 2018 reopening is 7,166. This arena is usually used for badminton tournaments. Its maiden event was the 1961 Thomas Cup. It was also used during the 1962 Asian Games and was renovated to host the 2018 edition. Its first post-renovation event was the 2018 Indonesia Masters. During the latter Games, it hosted the badminton and later stages of basketball events. The arena originally was planned to stage the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup and becoming the only Indonesian venue in the three-country joint bid but was moved to a newly-built arena inside the complex. Manasi Girishchandra Joshi (born 11 June 1989) is an Indian para-badminton player. She is a former world champion in para badminton women's singles SL3 category. On 8 March 2022, she was ranked world No.1 in women's singles SL3 category. Early life and background Manasi was born in Rajkot, Gujarat and she was raised in Anushaktinagar, Mumbai. She graduated in Electronics Engineering from K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering, University of Mumbai, in 2010. A sports lover, Manasi played football and badminton in her school and college life. Parul Dalsukhbhai Parmar (born 20 March 1973) is an Indian para-badminton player from Gujarat. She had been ranked world number one in para-badminton women's singles SL3. Early life Parmar was born in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. She was diagnosed with Poliomyelitis when she was three years old and in the same year she fell from a swing while playing, resulting in a fractured collar bone and right leg. The injury took a long time to heal. Her father was a state-level badminton player and would go to a local badminton club to practice. She also started going to the club with her father and started developing interest in the game. She also began playing badminton with neighbor kids. Sukant Indukant Kadam (born 9 May 1993) is an Indian professional para-badminton player. Having made his international debut in 2014, he became world number 2 in the SL4 category on 12 June 2017.
