Badminton Denmark
Badminton Denmark is the national governing body for the sport of badminton in Denmark. The organization represents 649 clubs as of 2018. The highest authority in Badminton Denmark is the assembly where each member club is represented. The board of directors' duty is to ensure the organisation moves in the direction that the assembly decided. There is an administration that runs the organisation day-to-day. The organization maintains the rules of badminton for Denmark, usually in line with those of the Badminton World Federation. Badminton Denmark operates two elite centers where elite players can go to train under the supervision of such greats as Morten Frost and Thomas Stuer-Lauridsen. There is also a center for the development of youth players run by Lotte Olsen. Brøndby Municipality
Brøndby Kommune (), a municipality ( da, kommune) in the former Copenhagen County (now Region Hovedstaden), is on the east coast of the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. Lotte Olsen
Lotte Olsen (born 23 November 1966) is a retired female badminton player from Denmark, who won a silver medal at the 1993 IBF World Championships and competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She won several international tournaments, and four Danish National Badminton Championships in women's doubles during her career. Lotte Olsen was a leading women's doubles player from her junior year, and won the Danish under-19 championship in 1984 and 1985. She won the silver medal at the 1993 IBF World Championships in women's doubles with Lisbeth Stuer-Lauridsen. They won silver medals at the 1994 European Badminton Championships, where Olsen also won silver medals with Christian Jacobsen in mixed doubles. Lotte is the older sister of badminton player Rikke Olsen, and together they won the 1995 Hamburg Open in women's doubles. Sport in Denmark is diverse. The national sport is running, but club sport is football with the most notable results being qualifying for the European Championships six times in a row (1984–2004) and winning the Championship in 1992. Other significant achievements include winning the Confederations Cup in 1995 and reaching the quarter final of the 1998 World Cup. Other popular sports include handball, esports, cycling, sailing sports, badminton, ice hockey, swimming, and recently also golf. A few youths also play basketball. The Denmark Open, or formerly known as Danish Open, is an annual badminton tournament held in Denmark and organized by Badminton Denmark. The Denmark Open was part of the BWF Super Series Premier from 2011 to 2017. BWF categorised it as one of the five BWF World Tour Super 750 events per the BWF events structure since 2018. History The tournament started in 1936 and it is now the world's second oldest badminton tournament. It was interrupted by World War II and was on hiatus from 1956 through 1964. The Danish Football Union ( da, Dansk Boldspil-Union; DBU) is the governing body of football in Denmark. It is the organization of the Danish football clubs and runs the professional Danish football leagues and the men's and women's national teams. It is based in the city of Brøndby and is a founding member of both FIFA and UEFA. The DBU has also been the governing body of futsal in Denmark since 2008. Morten Frost
Morten Frost or Morten Frost Hansen (born 4 April 1958) is a former badminton player and later coach, who represented Denmark. As a player, he spent twelve years in the top three of the world rankings. Badminton career During his career, Frost won almost every available top level championship, except the World Badminton Championships where he scored a silver medal twice (1985 and 1987). When he lost his second World Championship in the finals, the headlines rang out "The World's greatest badminton player may never be World Champion." While this may be the enduring footnote to his career, Frost dominated at the much coveted All England Open Badminton Championships. He won that tournament in 1982, 1984, 1986, and 1987.
